    QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of latest technology in food production and use of computers in nutrition service operations and management; laws, regulations and requirements pertaining to public school nutrition service programs; college course work in related area desirable; ability to perform, teach and supervise quantity food service preparation including computations required by prescribed menus, work simplification methods, first aid, safety and sanitation procedures, and proper use and maintenance of food service equipment, and food service computer systems; training in nutrition service program requirements, preparations of work schedules, recipe adjustment, menu production worksheets, safety and sanitation standards, and worker dress and personal hygiene standards; work effectively with staff, students and public; communicate in both written and oral form; experience in training, supervising and evaluating on-site nutrition service operations and personnel.
    Assists in coordinating and integrating department functions and responsibilities to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness while monitoring performance against the annual departmental budget; understands and is able to communicate the philosophy of the Kern High School Nutrition Services Program and on a daily basis helps to deliver information to the FS staff and school populations about the District Wellness Policy, the meals, the sources of the food, the recipes and the overall Nutrition Services program goals; plans, supervises, trains and coordinates daily Nutrition Service operations at the Central Production Facility to ensure compliance with federal, state and District regulations and policies; under the direction of the Director, implements departmental plans, work programs, processes, procedures and policies required to achieve overall department performance results; coordinates, manages and participates in selection, training, assignment evaluation and supervision of assigned personnel at the Central Production Facility and school sites, as needed; evaluates training needs and plans and implements staff training and development programs; Ensures adherence of NS program to application processes and meal accountability records for the National School Lunch Program, as operated by the State of California; under the direction of the NS Director, manages procurement, receiving, storage and transportation of food and supplies for the program, with a knowledge of and emphasis in sustainable whole foods systems. Develops, tests and manages recipe development, menu cycles for all age groups and meal types, including for profit catering programs; analyze Nutrition Services operation for cost effectiveness and efficiency consistent with NS Department Program, evaluate alternatives and develop sound recommendations for improvement; supports and understands District rules, human resources policies and procedures and labor contract provisions; performs other related duties as assigned.
    SERVE-SAFE CERTIFICATION REQUIRED WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT IN POSITION AND ABILITY TO MAINTAIN FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATION AS REQUIRED BY STATE REGULATIONS DURING EMPLOYMENT. VALID CALIFORNIA CLASS “C” DRIVER’S LICENSE.
    A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
    DUTIES OF POSITION: Nutrition Services Production Chef/Trainer, under the direction of the Nutrition Services Director, is responsible for planning, implementing, training, overseeing, managing and reviewing operational, procurement, recipe and menu cycle development and maintenance, and administrative elements of District wide Nutrition Services programs with an emphasis on management of the Central Production Training Kitchen, Menu planning and Procurement, Purchasing, and Inventory Management; is responsible for monitoring Nutrition Services staff and operations at school sites and the central production kitchen center, including Catering Services to ensure compliance with federal, state and district rules and regulations with assignments being broad in scope allowing for a high degree of administrative discretion in their execution.
    STARTING SALARY: $6,110.00 (monthly)
    NUMBER OF MONTHS: 12 (to begin as soon as possible)
    NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
