JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Accountant is a key role on an integrated team of accounting professionals that work together to deliver on kept.pro’s mission: providing small businesses with the financial information and insight they need to compete in their respective industries.

The ideal candidate enjoys a combination of reviewing the work of others and answering their questions, doing more complex accounting tasks, and preparing the month end close for multiple clients. You take the initiative, think critically about what you are doing and why it matters, love the challenge of solving problems, participate in creating solutions, and experience joy interacting with clients about their financials. You have a solid understanding of accrual accounting and how to update supporting schedules. The Accountant understands the financial calendar and loves the excitement of working with your team to close the books for multiple clients each month. This role is comfortable with a high email volume and leans into technology to work efficiently and collaboratively.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE 

1. Complete assigned weekly processing tasks within specified deadlines 
2. Complete assigned month end processing tasks within specified deadlines 
3. Build and maintain client relationships

DAILY AND MONTHLY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Performing accounting functions within QuickBooks Online 
• Ability to determine effect of accounting transactions based on an Accrual or Cash Basis
• Prepare the initial draft of monthly financial statements
• Lead the month end close process
• Maintain supporting Balance Sheet schedules, for example: Prepaid Expenses, Accrued Expenses, Fixed Asset Schedule
• Prepare and record month end journal entries
• Compete the full cycle duties for A/R and A/P
• Prepare and review payroll
• Complete payroll liabilities reconciliations
• Prepare and review Sales Tax
• Using independent judgment and discretion to accomplish client goals
• Primary communicator with clients
• Reviewing team member’s work; support Controller in coaching and training less experienced team members 
• Setting up new technology integrations and troubleshoot any issues 
• Partnering with a variety of vendors and platforms to complete accounting operations (e.g. expense management software, payroll providers, etc.)
• Assisting team members on special projects as required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

• Experience working with multiple clients / entities (>10-20), across a variety of industries to deliver bookkeeping or accounting services
• 6 years bookkeeping or accounting experience
• An Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field; or bookkeeping certification
• Proficiency working in QuickBooks Online
• Proficient with accrual accounting, consolidated financial statements, revenue recognition, and executing the month end close process 
• Analytical thinker that is skilled in creative problem solving 
• Exceptional attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, and finish projects within a specified timeframe
• A high comfort level engaging with clients
• Excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal skills
• Experience working in a remote environment with a distributed team
• High level of comfort with leveraging tools and technology to collaborate with team members
• Reside in Central Time zone
