(JOM) Johnson O’Malley Specialist

TYPE: Full-Time
LOCATION: Ponca City, Oklahoma
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED with experience in working with Native American Students or Youth. Prefer (2) years of education obtained in accredited Junior College, College, or University.
Must be able to pass a background check (no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for offenses relating to children) and Drug test. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be insurable. Must be able to pass a physical
SKILLS:
Must be able to set priorities, organize, and coordinate work efficiently and independently.
Competent in Microsoft program applications.
Create and coordinate annual student activities and events that will encourage students to excel in school and personal growth.
Be able to identify, tutor and monitor student’s 1st-12th grade who are not meeting the academic standards.
Develop programs for students to be college or career ready upon high school graduation.
COMPETENCIES:
Must have a knowledge and understanding of Native American Culture and Heritage.
Develop respectable working relationships with parents, students, and school staff.
Engage with students of different grade levels at planned educational activities or events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet with Administrators, Councilors, and Teachers of JOM students in the Kaw Nation service area to create a tutoring program to meet student academic needs.
Work with JOM Resource Advisor and JOM Coordinator to conduct the annual needs assessment survey to develop a program to meet the needs of the JOM students.
Work and help identifying parents for the JOM parent committee to advise the JOM program on the needs of the students and the program.
Attend Monthly JOM parent committee meetings.
Develop a partnership with each school Indian Education Director, Federal Program Director, Principal, and Superintendent that has JOM students in the Kaw Nation service area.
Help set up a fall enrollment date for JOM students at each school site in the Kaw Nation Service area.
Be prepared to enroll students in the JOM program throughout the year.
Develop and maintain a list of JOM students in the Kaw Nation Tribal service area.
Collect, copy, maintain, and share all documents with Kanza Human Development Division Intake Specialist and Case Manager.
Develop and maintain an electronic file on JOM students.
Answer emails, letters, phone calls, in a timely manner.
Process all financial responsibilities of the JOM program in a timely manner.
Keep an inventory of all JOM equipment.
Monthly report due on the last week of each month.
In-state and out-of-state training is required for this position.
Attend Tribal Council and General Council meetings if requested.
All other duties assigned.
All new hires will be required by the Kaw Nation to submit to a pre employment drug screen and background check. Failure to pass the drug screen or the background check will lead to withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment.
