Description: Special Education Coordinator

Location: Shared - Booker T. Washington and North Dover Elementary Schools


Terms of Employment: 10 month employee - temporary for the school year

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary: Current Teacher Salary Schedule

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Master's degree in Special Education or General Education with Special Education certification.
  • Teaching certificate with special education endorsements.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to develop special education documents based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to who assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, administration, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for coordinating Special Education meetings; working with parents; working with Psychologists and Related Service Providers; working with administration; data management and professional development regarding special education topics for staff. There may be other responsibilities as determined by the building principal or district director.
  • Review all files and paperwork around IEP's prior to implementation to ensure compliance and completeness.
  • Monitor IEPPlus and eSchool to ensure data in system matches individual files.
  • Plan and schedule meetings to occur within district, state and federal timelines.
  • Conduct meetings in a professional, courteous and compliant manner.
  • Ensure minutes forms accurately reflect meeting.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records.
  • Communication often with all appropriate staff regarding special education services and procedures.
  • Conduct regular file reviews using Student Record Review Protocol or equivalent.
  • Attend district level educational diagnostician meetings and special education core team trainings and meetings.
  • Delivers training to teachers on district initiatives, procedures, and policy regarding Special Education under the IDEA and Section 504 under the ADA.
  • Assists in September 30th unit count, December 1st child counts, local staffing counts and other needs as they arise.
  • Provides educational and/or case management services to students in a variety of settings contingent on building level needs. (Such services may include: RtI groups, push-in and/or pull-out educational services and behavioral intervention supports).
  • Facilitates with the psychologist and other staff, the Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan process.
  • Consults with teachers, administrators, and IEP teams regarding instructional and behavioral strategies for effective implementation of student IEP's.
  • Conducts observations of students and gives feedback to individual teachers and/or IST and IEP teams.
  • Provides classroom support for teachers including modeling of lessons and/or behavioral and instructional techniques.
  • Completes informal audits/file reviews to ensure compliance is met and be able to share out information regarding these audits with building administration and the Director of Special Education.
  • Conducts diagnostics to support data collection for identified students.
  • Supervises students
  • With notice and consistent with employment commitments, is available to students and parents, within reason, for educational related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
