Position: Coordinator – Statewide Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Location: Administering District is Christina School District, but program is Statewide Reports to: Director of Statewide Programs for Deaf and Deaf-Blind
PROGRAM: Statewide Programs and/or Services offer comprehensive educational services for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind from birth to 21 years of age.
Statewide Programs/Services for Children who are Deaf, hard of hearing and Deaf-Blind seeks to ensure that all deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students throughout the state of Delaware have unimpeded language and communication access to the curriculum and the educational environment, develop their self-advocacy abilities, and become active participants in their schools and communities. This is achieved through the provision of technical assistance, education and child/family centered programs and services in collaboration with local school districts, families, and allied professionals.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or related field
Must hold or be eligible for Delaware School Principal/Assistant Principal Certificate
Administrative experience preferred; minimum five years of teaching experience
Knowledge of current research and best practices in the development and education of children who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind, including the continuum of educational services
Knowledge of the language and communication needs of deaf children, including critical factors in the educational placement and provision of programming and services
Fluency in American Sign Language preferred
Willingness to travel

Months of Employment: 12 month position
Start Date: Mutually Agreeable Date

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide instructional leadership to Statewide Programs for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Coordinate and/or provide coaching and technical assistance regarding best practices for instruction of students who are deaf, hard of hearing/partially deaf or deaf/blind
Develop and communicate support to statewide school districts and charter schools to promote best practices with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
Plan and lead professional development for the Statewide Programs staff and state of Delaware stakeholders who work with children who are deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind
Coordinate the development of statewide events for students who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind
Coordinate birth-21 year referrals for services, including birth to five identification, diagnosis and service provisions
Communicate effectively with local education agencies, state agencies, parents, and staff in an effort to streamline services for students
Evaluate assigned staff members using the DPAS/DTGSS process and procedures outlined by the state department or approved evaluation tool identified by the respective employee group
Promote the development of leadership among the professional and supporting services staff
Follow all district processes, procedures and protocols outlined for administrators
