General Maintenance Technician
Summary
Troubleshoot and complete routine repairs, general maintenance, and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform equipment and facility repairs to ensure reliable operation to provide a safe living and learning environment.
  • Conduct testing, inspections, and preventive maintenance on systems and equipment to minimize equipment failures and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor and evaluate system and equipment operation to detect, investigate and prevent problems that could cause failure.
  • Perform varied maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance in Residential Halls, Academic buildings, and Residential Properties to get them prepared for occupancy.
  • Assist and train others to improve staff capabilities and department performance.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three years of related work experience or educational equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of assigned systems and equipment.
  • Ability to analyze equipment conditions to determine effective maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to complete timesheets, work orders and e-mail on the computers.
  • As needed to analyze operations and make adjustments and repairs to maintain efficient performance
  • Interest in understanding and supporting John Carroll’s mission to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational or technical training.
Five years of experience in building maintenance or trades.
Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions
This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. 40 hours per week as assigned. Department’s core hours range from 7:00 am – 6:30 pm. This position will require work performed outside of normal business hours and weekends based on campus needs and participation in an on-call schedule.
Physical Requirements
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in office and job site settings; to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.; able to climb ladders; to operate tools and equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; to travel to other campus locations and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
