Description

Position Title: Comptroller

Department: Business Office

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Position Summary: (Overall purpose of this position)

Essential duties and responsibilities which must be performed in order to carry out the position purpose summarized above:

(The following description is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned, as required.)

  1.  Prepare and input monthly journal entries for Jennings in an accurate and timely manner.
  2. Maintain Jennings’ accounting records (journal entry preparation including input/import, reconciliation of accounts and review of the balance sheet and income and expense summary report).
  3. Prepare and maintain fixed asset and depreciation expense schedules for all capital items (Excel spreadsheet and fixed asset software).
  4. Accumulate and maintain accurate statistics as directed (for the yearly audit, the 990’s and cost reports).
  5. Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and verify the reasonableness of all revenue and expense account balances on a monthly basis.
  6. Reconcile the monthly payroll and checking accounts in an accurate and timely manner.
  7. Calculate the monthly expense accrual in an accurate and timely manner.
  8. Prepare the monthly financial statements for Jennings in an accurate and timely manner.
  9. Maintain, generate and create reports from the financial reporting software package.
  10. Assist with the annual budget preparation, allocation and input of the annual budget for Jennings.
  11. Prepare the audit work-papers and schedules for the annual audit as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.
  12. Assist auditors in the completion of the annual cost reports (Medicare and Medicaid).
  13. Prepare the 990 Tax Returns in an accurate and timely manner.
  14. Prepare feasibility and profitability analysis of planned and existing programs and projects as directed.
  15. Approve accounts payable invoices for payment along with verification of the general ledger account number(s) for accuracy.
  16. Assist Payroll Coordinator with new payroll regulation in conjunction with Human Resources
  17. Act a backup for bi-weekly payroll processing.
  18. Cross-train with other positions in the department.
  19. Support/Assist with new technology initiatives.
  20. Cross-train, orient, instruct and direct office staff members as needed.
  21. Create and maintain overall responsibility specific policies and procedures.
  22. Communicate and work cooperatively with fiscal intermediaries, accountants, auditors and private insurance companies, facility vendors, administration, all facility directors/supervisors and staff members.
  23. Accumulate and maintain accurate statistics as required and directed.

  1. Adhere to Resident Rights policies at all times.
  2. Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
  3. Observe all infection control policies.
  4. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  5. Follow and assume accountability for all policies and procedures contained in the Staff Handbook.
  6. Plan work in an efficient manner and demonstrate dependability.
  7. Understand and comply with the Corporate Compliance Program.
  8. Know, understand and exemplify the mission and values of Jennings Center for Older Adults. Respect, Hospitality, Community, Discovery of Potential and Celebration of Life.
  9. Perform all other related duties as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Computer proficiency: Microsoft Office Suite; demonstrated understanding of the application of related functional information technologies and data management systems.
  • In-depth emotional intelligence: behavioral maturity, demonstrated trust and integrity, high ethical standards, interpersonal competence and the ability to prevent, reduce and resolve conflict.
  • In-depth written and oral communication skills: demonstrated ability to present material orally or in writing in an articulate and concise manner; demonstrated understanding of the need to share information and to whom as well as the ability to listen to and process others’ points of view.
  • Leadership skills: selection, hiring, training, coaching, team building, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  •  Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Knowledge of financial statements, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general office procedures, filing, ability to use an adding machine and experience with computer software and Microsoft Office
  • 3-5 years of previous accounting experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • 3-5 years of previous experience
