JANUS YOUTH PROGRAMS INC is Hiring a Case Manager - The Nest Near Vancouver, WA

Program Summary:

The Case manager will assist in supporting youth with all their day-to-day needs, and will also assist, in conjunction with the residence, designing the program. Caples Terrace is a 28 unit VHA apartment complex which provides an incredible opportunity for former foster care and homeless youth. Nam’u Qas is a 30 unit VHA apartment complex which provides a great opportunity for currently houseless individuals. Both buildings work with individuals ages 18-24. Case Manager will provide individualized case management services to former foster and homeless youth. Services include needs assessments, housing assistance, independent living skill building, education, housing support, and referral to community resources. The Case Manager will also be out in the community developing relationships with community partners and landlords to assist youth when they move out of Namus Qas and Caples. This case manager will work with households in both buildings.

Wages/Benefits:

$25 per hour. Janus offers an excellent benefits program including medical, dental, vision, life & long-term disability insurance; EAP; 401(k) and paid time off (varied eligibility waiting periods apply). Voluntary optional coverage is also available. Potential for pay differential for bi-lingual staff (preference for English/Spanish).

Schedule:

40 hours per week, with partial remote work.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Associates (or higher) Degree in a social-services related field and experience providing case management services.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge of access to community resources and ability to successfully assist participants in accessing needed resources.
  • Experience in providing outreach and direct-service to at-risk and homeless adolescents.
  • Experience demonstrating competence in fiscal responsibilities and duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must value working in a multicultural/diverse work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a broad variety of individuals, including clients, landlords, school staff, and resource providers.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated, self-directed in a community setting.
  • Ability to speak and present information in both individuals and small-groups to represent the program in community settings.
  • Ability to accurately read, write, and interpret information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time and information efficiently.
  • Willing and able to learn and navigate HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and required data reporting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and competence in computer use for research and reporting purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team-dependent environment and a willingness to receive and act upon feedback.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries in working with others and in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and judgment in working with a variety of people.
  • Ability to consistently attend and be punctual for scheduled work commitments and meetings and be in a condition suitable for performing the functions of the position.
  • Math aptitude sufficient to provide education regarding home budgeting and in managing/reconciling petty cash.
  • Manual/physical dexterity allowing for performance of routine office functions such as writing, copying, filing, computer use, phone use, faxing, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs in order to deliver/carry materials, and/or move furniture.
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs in order to access clients’ homes and apartments is required.

Other Requirements:

  • Requires driving a personal vehicle allowing for transport of participants and within the Clark County area. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residency, personal auto liability coverage ($100,000/$300,000 levels strongly recommended), and a driving record that permits coverage under the corporate liability policy. All employees driving for work purposes, whether driving a personal or agency vehicle, must complete the agency’s driving approval process prior to driving for work.
  • Must pass criminal history clearance
  • First Aid, CPR certifications and TB Test.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides Case Management to program participants
  • Provide life skills education (i.e. budgeting, home upkeep, time management, education and employment skills to program clients.
  • Provide transportation to needed appointments to program clients
  • Develop relationships with community partners and landlords
  • Regular home visits.
  • Collaboration with community agencies, landlords, job sites and schools
  • Assist program participants in accessing and transitioning to alternative housing options.
  • Submitting check requests to the Fiscal Department and delivering checks to clients.
  • Advocate for and Refer participants at/to appropriate supportive agencies
  • Maintain accurate and up to date case notes and documentation
  • Model and encourage direct, professional communication and facilitate development of a positive working environment.
  • Other duties, as assigned Program Director or Executive Director.

Working Conditions:

  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases which can encompass a variety of infections and illnesses, including the common cold, TB, hepatitis, Infectious Meningitis, and HIV.
  • May involve exposure to frustrated and confronting individuals.
  • Occasional time in excess of routine schedule or adjustment to routine schedule may be required, such as evenings or weekends.
