Jackson County ISD is Hiring a Teacher - Early Childhood Education / Early Interventionist Near Jackson, MI

Summary: The Early Interventionist shall provide services to families and children from birth to age 3: developmental evaluation, child and family assessment, family-centered services, service coordination, direct services and collaborative consultation with staff, parents, agency personnel, and administrators.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)

  1. Provides comprehensive evaluation for children aged 0-3 referred to Early On for suspected developmental delays or disabilities: motor skills, cognition, communication and social-emotional areas. Family assessment, clinical observation, a developmental and health history will also be completed along with a written evaluation report.
  2. Assists families in understanding child development, identifying developmentally appropriate expectations, understanding the etiology and physiology of the child's delay, disability and /or diagnosed condition. Supports the family by relating this information to the needs of the child, and by providing strategies and resources to assist the family in addressing the child's needs.
  3. Provides periodic home visits to the child and family providing support to enhance parent-child interactions and developmental guidance. Supports the family in providing an appropriate environment and activities and strategies to enhance their child's development.
  4. Provides developmental supports, services, and on-going assessments in natural environments for Early On children, age 0-3, and their families according to their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). This requires planning for individual and group services which are provided in the child's home or community setting.
  5. Makes referrals to and coordinates with appropriate community resource and existing at-risk/special needs services to assist and support child and family needs.
  6. Coordinates services for eligible Part C children and their families by developing and maintaining the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  7. Facilitates transition planning and activities identified by the IFSP for the child and family as they exit Early On by age three or as their program and service needs change.
  8. Collaborates with appropriate community resources and medical providers to facilitate services and supports for the child and family. Adapts to and implements changing requirements in Early On as laws, rules and regulations are updated and reauthorized.
  9. Conducts public awareness activities within the assigned service area targeting agency staff, medical providers, and childcare programs to promote Early On and establish referral sources.
  10. Completes and maintains documentation and data regarding service in accordance with the program guidelines and district policies and procedures.
  11. Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience: Bachelor's degree in child development, teacher education, counseling, social work, nursing, psychology or other human services related field, with three to five years of experience. Knowledge and expertise with child development, family-centered services, diagnostic services, early interventions, and diverse populations.

Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated employment date is July 1, 2024. Placement on the Special Education Certified Salary Schedule will depend on education, qualifications and experience. New employee starting salary range is $52,518-$105,246. Paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurances, sick and personal business days.
