Overall Responsibilities

Jointly responsible with Project Management/Supervision for the overall success of the Restaurant and Retail construction projects. Responsible for implementing and meeting the schedule, controlling costs and managing manpower and equipment on assigned projects.

Responsible for timely communication with all managers and support staff from within the company. Provides continuous hands-on coordination and field supervision of all construction operations, including subcontractors and other construction related personnel. Directs personnel in the planning, scheduling, and execution of work on time, within budget, and the highest standards of workmanship. Attains or exceeds profit goals and promotes workplace safety while meeting and exceeding the owner’s expectations. Promotes a positive company image. Is the leader on his/her assigned projects and is ultimately responsible for its operational success. Holds an OSHA 30 Certification within 6 months of employment and leads the company’s safety initiatives onsite.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:

  • Support the objectives and direction of construction superintendent by:
  • Reviewing the plans and specifications to build project schedules, identify any potential scope gaps and submit RFIs to clarify constructability items. Scheduling pre-construction site meetings with all trade partners to review the site conditions and schedules.
  • Attending all pre-construction meetings, project progress meetings and any company held safety, quality and informational meetings.
  • Leading onsite daily toolbox talk meetings.
  • Updating of the 2-3 week look-ahead schedules weekly, and identifying items for the Constraints Log. Sending to the Project Team 2 days prior to the OAC meeting for final review.
  • Knowing all aspects of the current plans, specs and notes throughout the most up to date construction set.
  • Daily tracking of all long lead items, plan revisions, submittals and updating Project Management of any and all onsite condition changes or constraints.
  • Coordinating with Project Management any and all changes or RFIs by marking and red-lining plans with this updated information daily.
  • Coordinating all onsite trade changes to the marked-up drawings. Deliver “as-built” drawings to the Project Team upon final completion of the project.
  • Creating a minimum of five (5) observations per week , including documentation photos for distribution.
  • Planning and scheduling to ensure the project progresses according to the schedule’s hard milestones, as well as tracking and coordinating all labor and material costs.
  • Project Site objectives:
  • Meeting with all trade foremen every morning prior to the commencement of their scope (first work in place) to ensure contract durations and start times align with the construction schedule and inform trades of any discrepancies.
  • Creating and conducting weekly subcontractor planning meetings for the next 2-3 weeks scheduled work, and updating the schedule.
  • Reviewing the project budget on a weekly basis and discussing any variances with the Project Team. Recording any and all delays, damages or re-work for back-up of possible subcontractor material and labor back charges or CO’s to the owner.
  • Maintaining maximum project efficiency and management of costs by:
  • Scheduling manpower a week in advance by replying to the Weekly Manpower request schedule by COB every Tuesday. Record any additional labor/manpower onsite .
  • Arranging for, and being available to receive deliveries and provide for materials and/or supplies to projects in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining or improving the job schedule by identifying ways to create or make up time as soon as the schedule is reviewed. Eliminating the “Red “X’s”/extended general conditions.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating task timelines by capturing any delays in writing and recording those events .
  • Supervising the layout and all work performed, ensuring it is correct and in compliance with plans, specifications and local building codes and laws. Stop the work if at any point it does not conform with local building codes, drawings or specifications and notify the project team immediately and make the necessary plan for corrections.
  • Driving the scheduled subcontractors to deliver on a timely basis. Logging in daily reports of all employees directly under their supervision.
  • Understanding of all Subcontractors contractual scopes. Continuously monitor field personnel’s performance against the Superintendent’s projected performance according to estimates.
  • Reconciling receipts with all required information in Certify for accounting processing.
  • Daily Superintendent Administration:
  • Creating and maintaining accurate daily reports and weekly progress reports.
  • Taking multiple photos daily of the site and work progress load in the daily reports and progress reports.
  • Recording a minimum of one (1) Observation in daily report each day.
  • Ensure Quality and Safety Standards by:
  • Ensuring the workmanship meets or exceeds quality standards, specifying and documenting those standards by defining how the work executed by holding at least one weekly meeting with the subs to discuss and review a written set of quality standards (SSQP) prior to starting their work.
  • Preparing and scheduling all quality and safety inspections of first work in place, including that of the subcontractor and any 2nd-tier subcontractors. Scheduling all necessary inspections regularly.
  • Enforcing the site safety 3-strike rule with all subcontractors and preparing all documentation and forwarding to the project team.
  • Ensuring subcontractors are following the company’s safety manual and all related jobsite protocol:
  • Project Safety Start-up Checklist is completed and signed off
  • Field Safety Inspection is completed in weekly progress report
  • Monthly First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher Inspection Log is completed and turned in
  • Company Emergency Action Plan is posted
  • OSHA Logs are posted
  • Ensure a Positive Work Environment by:
  • Setting an example for all employees by acting in a professional, courteous and civil manner and adhering to required dress standards.
  • Maintaining positive relations with clients or owners.
  • Leading by example with all PPE requirements.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly job site, by holding Subcontractors accountable for daily clean-up, material storage and equipment/tool organization.
  • Ensuring that owner and subcontractor relations are maintained at the highest level possible while holding all accountable.
  • Representing and protecting the public image of the company at all times.

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities Required:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Full-scale restaurant experience preferred; restaurant construction experience required.

Thorough working knowledge of commercial building standards, specifications, codes, regulations and laws Knowledge of commercial construction techniques, 3–5 years’ experience in construction, 5 or more years in a supervisory position

Effective communication skills; both verbal or written Working knowledge of OSHA regulations

Computer and other technology skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Google Workplace helpful

Working Conditions

Individuals work primarily in the field, and can be subjected to outdoor weather conditions. As needed, weekend work is required and part of the job description.

- Maintain accurate documentation of project progress, including daily reports, change orders, and RFIs

Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management or related field
- Strong knowledge of construction management software (e.g., ProCore, Prolog)
- Proficiency in construction estimating and budgeting
- Familiarity with quality control processes and procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards
