Position Summary:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the Sleep Disorders Center technical staff. Serve as a clinical resource to staff as the lead PSG Tech. Must comply with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Standards of Conduct, as well as all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* RECORDS & EQUIPMENT - Ensure maintenance of procedure records and patient billing charges; prepare and maintain statistical data, reports, and memoranda; direct equipment and storage; ensure adequate supply and equipment levels
* BUDGET - Prepare and administer the annual budget; direct and monitor quality assurance programs; update and implement departmental plans, goals and objectives and participate in the support of business growth and marketing efforts
* VENDORS - Meet with vendor representatives; evaluate new equipment and techniques
* TRAINING - Consult on technical basis; assist with training of PSG Techs, residents, medical students and fellows as needed
* RECORDKEEPING - Maintain a record of procedures and is involved with related billing procedures
* MEETINGS - Attend meetings as required, and participate on committees as directed
* EQUIPMENT USE - Effectively and accurately utilize sleep equipment software and handle over the phone troubleshooting activities with the manufacturer
* ARCHIVE - Responsible for Polysomnogram file management and long term archiving activities to include maintaining an organized numeric system to catalog archiving medium for easy retrieval
* COMPLIANCE - Responsible for compliance with numerous American Academy of Sleep Medicine Accreditation (AASM) requirements which include participation in data compilation and input for the sleep center patient data base
* PROCEDURES - Perform all procedures and tasks related to polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary
* PATIENT CARE - Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions related to Polysomnography
* NEEDS ANALYSIS - Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs; determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols
* PATIENT CARE - Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and do mask desensitization sessions for patients who are having difficulty tolerating wearing a mask
* DATA COLLECTION - Follow procedural protocols (Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration, etc.) to ensure collection of appropriate data
* PATIENT CARE - Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc
* AGE SPECIFIC CARE - Provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients
* TEST SCORING - Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines including, but not limited to, clinical events such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements and arousals, according to center specific protocols
* COMPUTER USE - Create documents in Word and Excel as well as utilize GroupWise and Access software
* EQUIPMENT - Perform routine care and maintenance of all equipment
* COMMUNICATION - Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills as well as appropriate social skills
* CUSTOMER SERVICE - Provide appropriate information to study participant's procedural-related inquiries
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'
* PATIENT CENTERED MED - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* RPSGT w/ BRPT or RRT w/ NBRC Sleep Specialty Credential
* NM RRT License or NM PSGT License w/in 120 days
Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Perform work in unusual positions using full body mobility with frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, twisting, and turning
