BACKGROUND

IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network - a democratic membership union with more than 1,000 government and NGO member organizations, and almost 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 160 countries. The Forest and Grassland Team (FGT) at IUCN is responsible for developing and executing the global conservation program for forests and grasslands. This includes efforts in primary forest and native grassland conservation, ecosystem restoration on both area-based and landscape scales, and effective rangeland and drought reduction management. The team focuses on addressing threats such as climate change and large-scale deforestation by advocating and implementing practical solutions supported by scientific knowledge.
FGT is looking to hire a Programme Support Officer to support a portfolio of projects aligned with the team's vision and objectives. The incumbent will also support project development, background research, and communications. The incumbent will support the team’s work with multiple partners such as governments, IUCN members, Commissions, and other partners that establish clear operational mandates for impact delivery, demonstrating the influence and demand-responsive nature of IUCN’s work to donors and investors.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Programme Support Officer to support our project and partnership/outreach activities within the projects supporting the Forest and Grassland Team. This role is crucial for enhancing the Forest and Grassland Team's engagement with partners and facilitating impactful conservation projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION
As an integral part of the Forest and Grassland Team (FGT), the Programme Support Officer will play a key role in supporting the team's work. This role provides an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the world of ecosystem restoration, climate action, and sustainable development, gaining first-hand experience in influential environmental research and policy-making initiatives. The incumbent will help advance IUCN’s support and engagement on forest conservation and restoration projects globally.
Specific tasks:
  • Support in project management and coordination with country and regional project teams.
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with governments, project partners, IUCN country offices, IUCN members and, other stakeholders to support project goals and objectives.
  • Support in outreach and knowledge management, updating the team and project websites, knowledge repository, and project databases.
  • Support the production and distribution of informational and promotional materials to highlight project milestones and success stories.
  • Organize internal and external meetings, workshops, and other project dissemination activities.
  • Support the creation of engaging content for project updates, success stories, and informational briefs for a variety of audiences.
  • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices among project stakeholders through interactive platforms and digital tools.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions to align projects with the team’s vision and objectives.
  • Any other task as agreed with the supervisor or the Head of the team.
REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in knowledge management, communications, natural resources management, forestry, conservation sciences, sustainable development, geospatial sciences, environment policy, or similar
  • 3-4 years of relevant experience in conservation, ecosystem management, or project coordination
  • Demonstrated ability for report writing and communicating complicated technical issues to a wide range of audiences and cultures.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in English. Proficiency or working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and tools is an advantage.
