We are currently seeking a Controller for our Corporate office in Colorado Springs, CO. Ideal candidates will have a background in proprietary/post-secondary education. Skillset should include prior experience in accounting software, updating and modernizing accounting processes and procedures, and the ability to lead and motivate staff.

Job Summary:

The controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reports results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Essential Duties:

• Oversee the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets. (in coordination with CFO)
• Prepares special reports for senior management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
• Oversee accounting department's cash disbursement activities ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing, and total corporate payroll tax compliance.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company’s value.
• Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile special reports as needed.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

The position requires light work, occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds while frequently lifting up to 10 pounds. Administrative work requires sitting for long periods of time, expressing complex topics through speech, sufficient vision to write notes and to make edits to documents, and hearing to interact with fellow staff. The worker is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions. This position may require occasional travel and/or overnight travel to visit various campus locations.

Required skills and qualifications

• Five or more years of professional accounting experience
• Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
• Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
• Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes
• Exemplary history of financial project management

Preferred skills and qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field
• Five or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
• Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)
• Experience working in the Education industry.
