What will you do?

The Facilities Maintenance II position assists with the maintenance of campus-wide facilities, systems, presentation of campus grounds, and intra-organizational support.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Completes periodic scheduled inspections, ensuring compliance of legal codes and regulations, and ensuring local and state inspections are current
  • Assists with maintaining function and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment by routine testing and preventative maintenance
  • Identifies systems performance issues and making recommendations to implement changes, and make expansions and/or additions
  • Assists with troubleshooting faulty systems and associated equipment to restore, repair, rebuild or replace components and parts including electrical, plumbing, compressed air, HVAC systems, fire prevention and security systems
  • Completes assigned Help Desk tickets as submitted by IALR staff and tenants
  • Works with external vendors and contractors, as appropriate
  • Maintains procedural and regulatory documentation regarding the troubleshooting, restoration, repair, rebuild and replacement of facility and equipment components, parts, and equipment
  • Assists with the oversight of various services in the absence of the Senior Facilities Manager, including cleaning services, landscaping, snow & ice removal, and security services
  • Helps maintain an up-to-date inventory list and supply of materials and equipment
  • Helps maintain a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring safety standards and procedures are adhered to
  • Completes and maintains training and certification on necessary equipment/processes within this position’s assignments, including the use of forklifts and hydraulic lifts
  • Serves as an active member of the IALR Safety Committee when required
  • Participates in planning short and long-range projects and may provide input and documentation of anticipated and projected facility needs
  • Works as a team player with the ability to develop cooperative and courteous professional relationships with co-workers and contractors; position is visible to the general public and must display courtesy and a welcoming disposition
  • Assists with pest control maintenance as needed
  • Performs other related duties as required


Where will you work?

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.


What do you offer?

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong working knowledge of operating various tools, including a volt/ohm meter, small power tools, and hand tools
  • Strong technical knowledge of various building systems (electrical, heating, plumbing, HVAC, and etc.) preferred
  • Good knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout Virginia as well as occasional out-of-state trips

Education and Experience:

  • Position requires related work experience
  • Maintenance technician certification or degree from a vocational school is preferred or may be substituted with experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Climbs ladders and steps to make building and system repairs
  • Significant lifting: weighing 50 pounds
  • Must be able to move freely between buildings and facilities on campus
  • Carrying, pushing, reaching and/or pulling
  • Significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity
  • Physical coordination to use equipment and hand-held motorized equipment
  • Physical, manual work is required
  • Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing/stooping/kneeling
  • Reasonable accommodation will be considered for physical disabilities, where relevant
