Inclusively is partnering with a chemicals and materials company to hire a Lab Equipment Manager.

Job Summary

In this role, you will report to the Manager, Onsite Services and will work closely with the Lab and Production Services team of over 1,500 on- and off-site expert personnel – and our customers – to perform customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Waltham, MA 02402

Shift: Mon to Fri, ~7:30 am – 4 pm

Wage: ~$27 per hour

What we’re looking for:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience required.

Experience: Multiple years’ experience working in a laboratory environment ideally with previous laboratory management responsibility & experience working with health and safety compliance policies & procedures required.

Tools: Proficient in data capture, analysis and reporting utilizing various IT systems particularly Microsoft Excel required.

Qualifications:

  • Covid-19 vaccinations required.
  • Knowledge of day-to-day functions of an R&D laboratory including commonly used equipment and laboratory space planning required.
  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills required.
  • Excellent customer service focus with positive can-do demeanor and the ability to work collaboratively and influence people to deliver results.
  • General Logistics Systems (GLS) and procurement experience strongly desired.
  • Some knowledge and experience of lean sigma processes are an advantage.
  • Able to partner with other teams and suppliers and deliver results in a matrix environment, managing multiple internal and external partners/stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and confidence to make clear decisions sometimes with limited information.
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, analytical, and networking skills.

In this role you will:

Day to day lab management

  • Operational management of a defined set of laboratories providing a ‘single point of contact’ for laboratory scientists – materials flow, FM service delivery, equipment availability, process optimization.
  • Handles CAPEX process for new equipment ordering including: communicate with scientists about needs, work with vendor on Pre-Qual form and costs, fills out CAPEX form and tracks progress, works with space planning team to find space before ordering, orders equipment, works with on-site equipment team to coordinate installation
  • Handles some non-CAPEX ordering for lab equipment, storage, etc.
  • Supports new equipment demand by liaising with the Capital Demand Manager and works with the scientists to identify future requirements and new innovations in technology to further enhance scientific capability within the function.
  • Ensures the laboratory maintains its operational efficiency by liaising with all FM suppliers - planning preventative and scheduled maintenance regimes with minimal impact to daily operations.
  • Proactively leads the process to investigate deviations from SLAs by root cause analysis and report back findings and plans to customers.
  • Assists in development and augmentation of SOPs for various assays particularly focused on scientific services and CAPEX/ordering.
  • Liaison with external suppliers and industry specialists to arrange demo kit/training to support new equipment demand.
  • Performs laboratory ‘ways of working’ tours for new staff working in the area to familiarize them with lab policies and procedures ahead of commencing any lab work.
  • Works with Scientific Services Supervisor to ensure routine site services are being met including: the lab coat program, ensuring proper equipment utilization and sharing, customer business development, etc.

Driving FM service delivery

  • Proactively identifies and implements process improvements in both internal and customer owned processes. Tracks all innovations monthly.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates relevant documentation in support of service delivery, compliance, and training where appropriate.
  • Builds relationships with the customer leadership team and the on-site FM organization to provide a collaborative approach to the operational management of the lab space. Meets regularly with relevant internal and external stakeholders to review new opportunities and performance delivery.
  • Reports on KPIs, relevant metrics, SLAs, and weekly tasks.
  • Optimizes the use of shared space whilst maintaining business as usual during the changing footprint.
  • Proactively engages with the Lab manager team across the UK and Sweden. Supports the development of Lab manager network to share best practice by participating in regular project work.

Health and Safety compliance (SHE)

  • Supports the Dept leadership team with health and safety compliance and identification/delivery of improvements. This may include facilitating SHE meetings, supporting the LSC with documentation (e.g., COSHH, risk assessments), ensuring SHE positions are filled and information is communicated to the lab users and leadership team.
  • Participates in SHE or service audits and leads the implementation of actions.
  • Ensures day to day adherence to SHE procedures in the laboratory (e.g., PPE compliance) whilst proactively reporting risks and near misses.
  • Other duties as assigned.
