JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for assisting in the management of insurance company credit risk related to IPFS’s premium financing loan portfolio. The individual in this position will work with and principally provide support to the Insurance Company Management (“ICM”) VP to assist with 1) analysis and monitoring of insurance companies to provide opinions, recommendations and counsel to VP with respect to IPFS’s internal ratings and financing limits; 2) development, maintenance, analysis and distribution of various reports, documents and other information; and 3) completion of special projects. The individual in this position must be detail-oriented with very strong analytical skills. This person must provide a high level of service and professionalism through written and verbal communication with all levels of IPFS Associates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Insurance Company Analysis / Credit Risk Management

  • Monitor and review financial results of insurance companies on a quarterly and/or annual basis pursuant to schedule and prioritization, as approved by VP. Prepare and submit to VP detailed financial analyses of selected insurance companies to establish IPFS’s internal rating and corresponding financing capacity.
  • Pursuant to ICM Policies & Procedures, develop and recommend company-specific underwriting guidelines including but not limited to financing capacity, restrictions, funding eligibility and monitoring status. Communicate other information such as company name changes, mergers & acquisitions, etc. Maintain history of analysis results, changes in financing capacity and company-specific underwriting guidelines.
  • Maintain electronic documentation for various correspondences, rating analyses, financial information, etc. Maintain IPFS’s insurance company database and related files for control information as directed by VP.
  • For assigned companies, research information releases from rating organizations, company press releases, news organizations, etc. Inform and consult with VP regarding significant developments and related impact.
  • Maintain current knowledge of GAAP, IFRS and NAIC statutory accounting practices and procedures, and insurance regulation through review of literature, continuing education, and periodic attendance at meetings.

IPFS Documentation and Reports

  • Assist VP in the development, maintenance, analysis and distribution of reports / documents related to the following:
  • Financing volume levels & trends – As directed by VP, review of monthly reports that provide information on financing volume, sources and trends. Discuss with VP any related issues, concerns, trends, and/or recommended actions as appropriate to manage insurance company credit risk.
  • Insurance company database administrative reports – As directed by VP, review of daily/weekly/monthly reports to monitor financing volume in relation to IPFS’s risk tolerance, while also monitoring for data quality issues, potential fraud indicators, etc.
  • Companies in receivership and liquidation – As directed by VP, assist in preparing, reporting, tracking and communicating information related to insurance companies in receivership or liquidation. May include communicating with Receivers, State Insurance Guaranty Associations, etc.
  • Other – As directed by VP, develop, analyze and maintain other reports as needed.

Special Projects

  • Receive assignments for special projects from VP, schedule completion and complete projects on time and within budget.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) or CPA preferred but not required.
  • 10 years of property and casualty insurance accounting/reporting including statutory reports and/or insurance financial analyst experience (5 years may be considered for non-senior, Financial Analyst-level candidate)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of NAIC financial analysis tools such as Risk-based Capital (RBC) and Insurance Regulatory Information System (IRIS).
  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting for property and casualty insurance companies.
  • Strong understanding of NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree (Accounting or Finance emphasis preferred).
