ImmunoGen is currently looking for an individual to join our Facilities & EHS team. The Lab Operations Manager is responsible for the oversight of daily operations in our Research and Development laboratories. This role will be instrumental in the development and fit out of new lab operations, ensuring our laboratories are ready for the growth of ImmunoGen’s current and future product pipelines. As a crucial point of contact for lab personnel, the Lab Operations Manager will field service requests, triage, and schedule vendors for service and maintenance. They will oversee lab organization, lab storage, lab equipment asset management, including vendor management, equipment maintenance requirements, and new equipment orders. This role will work with departments to ensure data transfer and organization along with the development of SOPs for compliance, training, equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair. They will work closely with procurement and the lab teams on budgeting and ordering of lab assets and service contracts. They will support lab asset integration into CMMS and EAM, installations, and oversight of any qualification / validation verification activities. They will provide consistent feedback on lab efficiency, operations, and programs as well as recommendations on any necessary improvement or changes.The Lab Operations Manager will work closely with the Facilities department to enable the labs to run efficiently, allowing the scientists to focus on laboratory research and development. This role will own the development and build-up of lab operations, streamlining and standardizing uniform lab processes. A successful candidate is driven, organized, and enjoys the challenges of managing a lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Management of day-to-day support of laboratory operations in mixed lab space, including Research, Tissue Culture, Conjugation Development, Translational Science, Antibody, Analytical Science, IHC Labs.
  • Oversee lab equipment and lab consumables ordering, procurement and inventory systems
  • Develop and implement systems and processes to ensure streamlined laboratory operations
  • Support the selection and procurement of laboratory equipment
  • Establish and maintain a management systems infrastructure to enable a structured laboratory operations framework across labs including lab fit-out (from selection to installation) lab equipment and instrumentation (proposals, contracts, maintenance, repair, calibration, upgrade and termination)
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (Research, Tech Ops, Logistics) and key functions within (Finance/Procurement, Facilities, IT, Legal) through engagement and communication
  • Partner with the EHS team to support EHS programs which ensure the safety of our employees and lab environments
  • Work with EH&S Manager to ensure the labs are compliant with all environmental and safety regulations, including Federal, State and/or City regulations
  • Oversee equipment-monitoring systems, and ensure appropriate procedures are in place in the event of equipment failure
  • Work with IT to define the specifications and the deployment of suitable data transfer infrastructure and connectivity between laboratory equipment and IT infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with the IT team and asset specific vendors to ensure data management systems, hardware and software are in place to meet lab needs
  • Establish and own a laboratory business continuity plan as well as extended-hours coverage and response plan.
  • Responsible for developing and executing a strategy for servicing laboratories, including equipment and instrumentation, scheduling, and lab capacity utilization.
  • Management of vendors and contracts process to obtain proposals, submit contracts for legal review, submit purchase orders, prepare location, coordinate delivery, installation, calibration, validation and testing.
  • Manage inputs from stakeholders (Research, Tech Ops, Logistics) to develop and implement operating plans that meet the needs of the business.
  • Coordinate lab user onboarding and offboarding including necessary training,
  • Coordinate with Facilities team members regarding building operations and equipment maintenance
  • All other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 5 years of experience in a Lab Operations Manager or equivalent role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of internal stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Experience working BSL-2 labs preferred, with experience and knowledge of Biological Safety, Hazard Communication, Chemical Safety, Industrial Hygiene and general lab safety
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently with a proactive, driven mentality.
  • Proficiency with appropriate standard software, laboratory instrumentation and data software
