Reports to: Interim Director of Education & Community Engagement

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Salary Range: $47,000-51,000

Summary:

The Houston Symphony’s Education Manager plays a vital role in fostering and expanding mutually beneficial partnerships with schools and youth ensembles across Greater Houston. This position manages the strategic coordination and execution of Student Concerts, along with the supervision of diverse education programs catering to students from preschool through high school, as well as music educators. With a focus on inspiring and involving a wide-ranging and diverse audience in Houston, the Educator Manager serves as a cornerstone in advancing the Symphony's mission and leaving a lasting impact on our community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Cultivate and Expand Relationships
    • Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with key educators and school district leadership
  • Student Concert Series Project Manager
    • Manage the entire ticket registration process, including communications with educators, system management, confirmations, waitlists, and payments.
    • Design Student Concerts curriculum and supplementary materials for teachers, including lesson plans, videos, recordings, and classroom extensions.
    • Collaborate with the Patron Experience Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure seamless execution of front-of-house roles.
    • Oversee the development and communication of seating assignments for schools attending.
    • Implement safety procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
  • Interactive Lobby Activities Coordinator
    • Develop and oversee engaging lobby activities tailored for children at Symphony concerts and family-oriented events, including the Family Concerts and Theater District Open House.
  • Partnerships Manager
    • Design and cultivate partnerships with schools, community youth ensembles, and early childhood music providers.
    • Lead initiatives that support educators, including teacher resources for Symphony concerts, the Salute to Educators concert & award, and professional development opportunities for music educators.
    • Research education curriculum and design trends for delivery of educational content and communications.
    • Manage the evaluation, assessment, documentation, and reporting of various education programs.
    • Support the design of training or information for orchestra musicians to maximize the impact of education programs.
  • Education Programming Evaluation, Visibility and Support
    • Monitor and oversee education budgets, including revenue and expenses.
    • Collaborate with the Development department on preparation of grant proposals by providing data (qualitative and quantitative) and reporting information.
    • Work with Marketing & Communications staff to promote and enhance the visibility of Education & Community Engagement programs.
    • Support and participate in the Board of Directors Education Committee.
  • Concert Duty and On-Site Management
    • Take on concert duty responsibilities for family, student and community concerts.
    • Provide on-site management for education and community events as assigned.
    • Assist Education & Community team members with program implementation as needed.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Undertake any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in music, education, business administration, or relevant area required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching music.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in administration or a related field is required.
  • Strong computer skills, including high level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and other Office 365 applications.
  • Experience using Tessitura or other ticketing software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively convey the impact of education and community engagement programs.
  • Genuine interest and passion in education and community building initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with timeliness, efficiency, and precision.
  • Organized and thorough work-style with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A collaborative, generous, and team-oriented attitude contributing to a positive organizational culture.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, including some holidays.
