JOB SUMMARY
The Data Science Coordinator 1 executes essential data management tasks, including cleaning, transforming, and manipulating data. They ensure data integrity and efficiency throughout by creating data flows, preparing data for analysis and visualization, and documenting processes for code reusability.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and present clear, comprehensive reports and visualizations that convey complex data in an understandable way to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
  • Audit processes, maintain database and reporting integrity, prepare reports, and support multiple projects.
  • Participate in regular data review sessions with academic leaders to discuss findings, insights, and implications for strategic planning and performance enhancement.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
  • Actively seek out and generate new and innovative ways to retrieve, visualize, and analyze data across a variety of operational and system sources.
  • Builds internal and external dashboards for data visualization for stakeholders. Collaborates with teams to determine best fit for these visualizations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE
At least 3 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
Compiles and organizes data and figures.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses.
Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions, and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor, and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Regularly assesses and diffuses complex, and escalated customer issues. Takes personal responsibility and accountability for solving systemic customer service problems. Regularly explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer within HISD's policies and guidelines.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
