JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator 1 of Data Visualization position is a technical professional who specializes in cleaning and integrating data from numerous district and state sources, running statistical modeling code and ad-hoc analyses, and building effective visualizations to communicate results. This position has demonstrated proficiency working with large datasets to support district leaders and stakeholders to solve tangible problems using programming languages for data science, such as R, Python, Stata/SPSS, or SQLand uses Tableau and/or Power BI at a proficient to expert level.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Collects and analyzes large datasets from various sources as required for data validation, analysis, evaluation, or implementation of projects. Must demonstrate experience querying large and complex data sets, writing calculated fields, and using data blending, relationships, joins, and documentation of methodology for replication.
2. Builds internal and external dashboards for data visualization for stakeholders. Collaborates with teams to determine best fit for these visualizations. 
3. Effectively maintain relationships with the teams who are utilizing the visualizations to ensure updates occur and changing needs are being met.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

4. Effectively project plan future visualizations that align to the vision and mission of the organization in collaboration with management. 
5. Effectively communicate insights from analysis using reporting and visualizations in collaborating with school administrators, teachers, and other education professionals to develop data-driven solutions to improve student outcomes and school performance. May develop and or assist with the creation and QA/testing of workflows and dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Python, Shiny, MS PowerAutomate, MS PowerBI, and make adjustments to accommodate evolving needs based on existing business requirements.
6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.

In order to demonstrate mastery of the knowledge and skills needed to be a successful education technology leader, this job requires staying up-to-date with the latest advances in data science, and education policy and research. Employees must engage in ongoing training in a syntax-based software package and/or business intelligence visualization software and demonstrate ongoing ability to apply that knowledge to enable strategic and systemic use of technology in K-12 education.

WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 3 years working in the district/central office of a large urban school district

Must demonstrate experience querying large and complex data sets, writing calculated fields, and using data blending, relationships, joins, and documentation of methodology for replication. Must have technical proficiency and versatility with at least one syntax-based software package (Jupyter Notebook, R, SAS, Stata/SPSS, SQL Server) and a willingness to quickly learn and translate those skills to other environments. Experience working with large, institutional databases and state education data sources (e.g., Census data, PEIMS, STAAR, etc.) preferred. Must have comfort matching the right analytic methods and tools to the analytic task at hand. Must be able to conduct rigorous analyses of quantitative data to drive district decision making using descriptive statistics, diagnostic statistical analysis, applied/predictive statistical analysis (e.g., clustering, regression, etc.), and/or machine learning.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent. Position regularly makes recommendations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects and new job duties and priorities.

Compiles and organizes data and figures.

Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.

Decisions have considerable impact to multiple divisions or the organization causing risks or improvements to relationships, significant efficiencies, or delays in operations, and/or significant financial gains or expenses.

Errors are serious and difficult to discover, normally involve decisions not subject to detailed review and will result in excessive costs and/or significant project delays.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve problems, clarify or interpret complex information/policies, and provide initial screening/negotiations without approval authority. Interactions are typically with customers, senior level professional staff, and managers.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

Leads others in the resolution of highly sensitive and confidential issues on behalf of the department. Acts as a trusted advisor and becomes involved in the customer's decision-making process including presenting alternatives and information and applying persuasion and negotiation skills in the resolution of problems.

Monitors customer service standards.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.

Ability to carry and/or lift less than 45 pounds.
