OUR OPPORTUNITY
SH Hotels & Resorts is in search of a forward-thinking Corporate Director of Payroll to manage end-to-end payroll solutions for our US hotels and corporate offices, while preparing for unprecedented growth into global markets.
As an integral part of the SH Hotels family, you will report directly to the VP, Global Tax, Payroll and Compliance, with primary responsibility for managing the payroll process for pre-opening properties, including the stand-up of payroll process at the properties, , as well as overseeing the payroll managers who process the corporate and property-level payrolls. You will be responsible for the review and approval of company-wide payroll. You will be responsible for overseeing garnishment and unemployment responses, liaising with state tax authorities, and providing tax responses or coordinating with ADP to provide them. You will be responsible for coordinating with and providing training to Directors of Finance and Directors of People at properties for the effective processing of payroll. In addition to this, you will work closely with the Benefits Manager on team member benefits and the HRIS Manager.

Payroll ensures the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of payroll and payroll tax payments, financial reporting and other related functions while providing information and assistance to the Finance teams. You will also be required to communicate, coordinate, resolve funding issues and work well with other team members, department heads, managers and guests.
You will have a high degree of autonomy and responsibility overseeing your department. Working seamlessly as an effective team will be critical. Qualifications:
Here's what you'll do:
  • Responsible for Payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, payroll tax payments and filings and reporting in accordance with SHHR policies and procedures.
  • Manage, develop, coach, and mentor a team of direct reports.
  • Support the hotel teams and their abilities to process payroll on a weekly, bi weekly, and monthly payroll schedule for multiple states across the U.S.
  • Review and ensure accuracy and appropriateness of all payroll input and output.
  • Monitor, prepare and communicate financial reports in accordance with SHHR’s requirements meeting various due dates; i.e., labor, tip, month-end, overtime reports, etc.
  • Manage relationships with regards to any union payroll requirements, where necessary.
  • Provide expertise with ADP Workforce Now and eTime/Workday.
  • Train new People team members and other leaders on using ADP and payroll process requirements.
  • Develop and manage projects or assignments that are moderately complex in nature.
  • Offer strategic guidance and professional recommendations in solving fairly complex payroll-related problems.
  • Manage compliance with all payroll regulations and business policies.
  • Keep current on federal, state and local payroll policies, especially an extensive understanding of California, New York, Hawaii, Washington, Tennessee and Florida state regulations.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to provide direction to staff who are responsible for payroll execution and payroll systems administration.
  • Responsible for working with 3rd party vendors and establishing relationships.
  • Ensuring payroll data is prepared and fully reconciled. Garnishments, funding requirements, union dues, pension payments, 401(k), etc.
  • Responsible for team's ability to address any issues including quarterly and annual balancing and audits.
  • Prepare tax reports and other regulatory reports as necessary.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state and local taxes in various states where the company has employees. This includes, in some cases, establishing a new location for remote workers.
  • Reconcile, review and approve W-2s.
  • Responsible for output of accurate data provided to accounting for monthly general ledger close of payroll.
  • Prepare all required payroll journal entries.
  • Provide support in the Quarter/Year-end process and/or audits as requested by business units, tax department, and People/ Finance.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and establish strong cross-functional relationships.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum eight years payroll experience and minimum five years supervisory experience.
  • Processed payroll for 1,000 employee population company.
  • Multi-state payroll experience required.
  • Union payroll processing experience is a plus
  • Experience in managing a non-local payroll team, ideally in a growing, changing, fast paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate would have international experience/ knowledge of Canadian payroll processing and payroll experience in New York, Florida and California.
  • Advanced knowledge of PC applications (principally Excel and MS Office products). Workday experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to facilitate clear and concise communication with a high level of professionalism.
  • Well versed with standard payroll/accounting concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to explain the fundamentals to individuals at all levels.
  • HR knowledge as it relates to payroll and accounting.
  • Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Ability to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Must possess legal work authorization to work in the United States.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance Accounting, or similar degree desired, Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Knowledge of ADP Workforce, ADP time, ADP General Ledger a plus
