Job Description
- Education equivalent to graduation from high school
- Verifiable High school diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age
- One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid or volunteer experience in the care, training, habilitation, and development of the mentally retarded, developmentally disabled, physically challenged, or mentally ill children.
- Knowledge of some characteristics and concepts of mental retardation, mental health, health disorders, and related physical conditions and treatment approaches for children.
- Knowledge of simple nursing care, first-aid, behavior management, personal and environmental hygiene.
- Ability to implement and follow the policies and procedures of the department, facility, or service entity.
- Engaging in the care, training, and rehabilitation of physically and mentally retarded clients or mentally ill.
- Providing basic nursing care, personal care, and hygiene.
- Performing established training, care, and programmatic activities.
- Teaching clients eating, bathing, dressing, grooming, and other self-care skills.
- Participating with professional staff in the design and implementation of training and programmatic activities.
- Observing the rights and personal dignity of others.
- Observing, recording, and reporting clients’ behavior, attitude, and physical condition.
- Performing simple math and communicating effectively, both orally and written.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with clients and other employees.
