Holland Hall was established in 1922 and currently serves approximately 1,000 preK through 12th grade students in a coeducational setting. THIS POSITION

The Primary School Teaching Assistant interacts with their classroom teacher and students daily. They are part of a dynamic team approach to education. They assist in the implementation of an engaging and innovative curriculum while supporting a positive, student-centered school culture. Each Teaching Assistant – PS reports to the Head of the Primary School. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

DUTIES

Under the direction of the Head of the Primary School, this employee works alongside the classroom teacher and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Provides general supervision of students in the classroom and on the playground.

  • Supports the preparation of classroom instructional materials.

  • Helps set up and/or clean up after activities.

  • Works with individuals or a small group of students.

  • Covers arrival and dismissal duties in the morning and afternoon.

  • Covers supervision duties as assigned in the Primary School.

  • Supports a student when a problem arises, e.g., takes student to the nurse, assists student in changing clothes in case of an accident.

  • Maintains curriculum, classroom environment, and routines in teacher’s absence.

  • Acts as a substitute teacher, as schedule allows, when core teacher needs coverage.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned by classroom teacher or Head of the Primary School.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practice, and procedures for particular age group.

EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE

  • Must be organized and able to prioritize work.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess basic computer skills, familiarity with Google suite of products and MS Office applications.

  • Able to utilize a variety of educational materials and resources such as computer, telephones, video equipment, toys, swing sets, mats, balls, and related equipment.

  • Regular attendance is required for successful completion of job duties.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position's hours are from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm. during the school year.

  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Activities include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual activity.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions on a twice-daily basis for approximately thirty minutes at a time.

  • This position is not eligible for telecommuting.
