Position Summary

TheEmployment Specialist carries out supported employment services by helping PeerProgram clients obtain and sustain employment that is consistent with theirvocational goals. The Peer Program works with clients who have Substance UseDisorder to help them identify and reach their recovery, health, and/oremployment related goals. This position will assist clients with job searchactivities, resume building and interview skills development. The idealcandidate will have basic knowledge and/or experience in employment applicationprocess, supporting clients to maintain employment, and the impact ofemployment on disability and other public benefits.

Inthis position, you will assist clients individually and in small groupsettings, offering the assistance with:

  • Careerexploration, employment readiness assessment, and goal planning
  • Budgetingand financial planning, including helping clients understand how benefits suchas SSI, SSDI, SNAP (food stamps), health insurance, housing, or other programsmay be affected by employment
  • Applyingfor work, creating and updating resumes, and writing cover letters
  • Overcomingbarriers to working related to criminal history, addiction, disability, orunemployment
  • Navigatingeducational, training, or skill building classes, including making connectionswith other community agencies and helping clients attend workshops or colleges
  • Providingreferrals to temp agencies, local employment departments, VocationalRehabilitation centers, financial and legal assistance centers, or othercommunity agencies to help clients find work, start small businesses, save foreducation, or overcome barriers to employment
  • Assessingclient needs and appropriately and responsibly providing financial or materialassistance to clients in the form of interview clothing, bus passes or gascards, education-related expenses, computers or internet, and related educationor career-related needs.
  • Guidancerelated to disclosure, illness, or negotiation of any HIV-related needs in theworkplace.
  • Jobretention services, including job coaching, support for employment re-entry,and financial assistance as needed.

Inaddition, you will be responsible to maintain relationships with the PeerSupport Specialist team and community partners to help clients overcomebarriers and access necessary services.

 

Essential Functionsand Responsibilities

Engageswith clients and establishes trusting, collaborative working relationships

Workswith client to identify their strengths and barriers for employment, employmentgoals, and areas for skill building

Workwith clients to develop resumes, interview skills and job skills

Maintaincomprehensive information about benefits and work incentives

Conductoutreach to local employment and financial planning service providers

Coordinateclient services and communicate with Peer Support Specialists regularly aboutclient updates

Researchemployment-related resources and maintain up-to-date resource lists

Provideemployment information and resources to clients in a variety of ways, includingclient newsletters, mailers, web-based communication and social media

Meetwith clients who are considering going to work to review their benefits andproject how work will affect them

Provideclients with opportunities to attend employment events, including workshops,classes, and group attendance at job fairs

Maintainconfidential, sensitive, and critical documentation

Updateand maintain client files, notes, and assorted materials in paper and digitalforms

AssistPeer Engagement Manager with reports, special projects, and correspondence asnecessary

Attendrelevant trainings and meetings

Providecoverage to other teams and departments as assigned

Otherprojects and duties may be assigned

 

PreferredQualifications

Bilingualin English and Spanish

Experiencein working with people with substance use disorder in an employment or humanservices environment

 

RequiredQualifications

Bachelor’sDegree in Social Work/Human Service or other related field or 2 yearsemployment assistance or related experience

Client-centeredservice experience

BeSOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recover) certified or willing to completetraining within 12 months of hire

Abilityto work with diverse populations (including clients with Substance Use Disorderand/or mental health disorders)

Excellentwritten and oral communication skills

Strongproblem-solving skills, flexible to respond to unanticipated needs andre-prioritize work tasks as necessary

Ableto learn, willing to ask questions to clarify information

Detail-orientedwith strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Capacityto think independently and use mature professional judgment

Self-directed,team player who can work independently

Capableof respecting and maintaining confidentiality in all appropriate agencybusiness

Proficiencyin Excel, Word and file management in Windows, working knowledge of databases

ValidOregon driver’s license, driving record sufficient to be covered by agency autoinsurance policy, ability to transport self to job related events

Abilityto pass a background check

Completionof TB test, provided by agency

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee isrequired

  • Repetitive use of hands such as grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity necessary to perform various clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
  • Frequent use of arms such as pushing and pulling to open and close drawers and cabinets
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
  • Ability to bend, stand, and reach to be able to transport clients and to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds (boxes of copy paper and/or files for storage.
  • Continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

Working conditions, Travel and Environment

The duties of this job require individuals be able to workin traditional office settings five days a week. Remote work available threedays a week. The duties of this job require regular attendance

  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work 5 days per week for 40 hours per week

Travel to other locations as necessary to completeessential job functions

  • Ability to transport self to job-related events and locations
