Goodwill of Lane & South Coast Counties & Alaska is Hiring an EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST-SENECA Near Eugene, OR

JOB SUMMARY

Work as part of a team to provide employment related education, support, guidance, training and job opportunities to individuals enrolled in Workforce Development programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist participants with activities designed to prepare individuals to be successful in obtaining and retaining employment. Activities may include: employment counseling, application development, resume writing; cover letters, interviewing skills, online resources, job leads and referrals, employment related workshops; workplace basics, and mentoring.
  • Complete orientation and enrollment activities with participants based on Goodwill and contractual requirements.
  • Provide referrals to community resources to assist individuals overcome barriers to employment.
  • Identify program eligibility and enter information into appropriate database according to contract requirements. Collaborate with workforce team members to provide a level of case management services to individuals based on program requirements including tracking participation and progress, support services delivery, maintaining participant records and reports, maintaining confidentiality, and ensuring that all relevant data is accurately entered into appropriate databases.
  • Maintain the documentation of program outcomes including intakes, participant training, job placement and employment status of program participants.
  • Participate in required trainings in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with program lead staff and management to coordinate services and provide program specific training to staff.
  • Promote and recruit individuals for various Job Connections services.
  • Develop, revise, and deliver workshop curriculum and services to meet participants needs. Provide group and individual instruction to participants in various Job Connections programs.
  • Coordinate enrollment, placement, and attendance for individuals referred for community service activities. Communicate effectively with internal and external sources.
  • Maintain vocational related resources and referral information.
  • Maintain a list of qualified, work-ready individuals that can be immediately placed in Goodwill Industries employment openings.
  • Understand local employers’ needs and match job seeker’s skills to employment opportunities in the community.
  • Assist in maintaining current job postings by cold calling, printing, and cataloging known job listings.
  • Document job placements and employment status by performing follow up calls to participants.
  • Assist with coverage as needed to include front desk, navigation, cold calls, customer service
  • calls and individual appointments.
  • Monitor participant’s work performance, work with other departmental staff including Retail Managers to achieve specific objectives/goals.
  • Emphasis upon participant contact, progress, data collection, modification of vocational behaviors, feedback, and reinforcement.
  • Provide direction, support and training to individuals referred into work activities through orientation/intake and work site coordination, job coaching and mentoring. Assist participants to understand and overcome barriers to employment.
  • Provide conflict resolution between program participants, coworkers and worksite supervisors as needed; report attendance and client progress at weekly/bi-weekly branch work screenings; provide attendance reporting documentation and TRACS narratives.
  • Provide supervision, problem solving, direct training, feedback and other services that will assist individuals to learn proper job skills. Provide on-the-job training to participants to assure job mastery.
  • Actively work alongside individuals being trained to demonstrate tasks and model appropriate work performance.
  • Ensure that participants and other employees are working in a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintain a positive business relationship with funding source representatives.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • Promote and uphold Goodwill Industries Mission, values, and philosophy.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English proficiently.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Strong technical office skills. Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, data base management systems and knowledge of virtual platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be available to work assigned shift and be flexible as needed.
  • Have access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug-screening test. Employee must immediately inform CFO or Human Resources of any arrests and/or convictions that occur while employed with Goodwill Industries.
  • Must be able to build relationships and trust with clients, instill motivation and offer value added customer service for those seeking work.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and maintain client case notes.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, referring agency personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

EXPERIENCE
Two years related experience and training or equivalent. Knowledge of or experience working with the business community. Experience assisting individuals with self-sufficiency, vocational goals or related counseling practices preferred. Proficient knowledge of basic office software. Ability to utilize Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and data management systems. Knowledge of and ability to present in virtual platforms.

EDUCATION
High school diploma or G.E.D.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current valid Alaska or Oregon Driver License and insurable driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment for this position is not constant. Occasional travel between locations is expected.

WORK HOURS
Work hours are typically Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM
