SUMMARY:

This organization has pioneered an innovative model, the sole one of its kind in New York City, co-locating a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. They offer a variety of tailored youth development programs and services to address each child's unique strengths and challenges, cultivating an uplifting environment to nurture hope and resilience.

Position Overview: Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Development will spearhead the strategic growth and sustainability initiatives of the organization. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the VP of Development will lead the Development and Communications department, serving as a chief architect in advancing the organization's vision and mission to diverse stakeholders. This role requires a dynamic and visionary leader who can develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, community engagement initiatives, and communication campaigns to achieve ambitious revenue targets and bolster organizational impact. The VP of Development will oversee a team responsible for donor relations, corporate partnerships, individual giving, foundation grants, and special events, while also collaborating closely with the organization's PR firm to shape the communication strategy. Additionally, this role involves fostering strategic partnerships within the criminal justice reform movement and leveraging community networks to expand the organization's reach and influence.

The Vice President of Development will bring extensive experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, communications, and leadership, with a track record of securing major gifts, managing development operations, and fostering strategic collaborations. This role requires a seasoned, skilled, and savvy professional capable of managing a diverse team, cultivating a culture of philanthropy, and driving innovation in fundraising and communication efforts to propel the organization toward its fundraising goals.

Essential Job Functions:

Nonprofit Development Leadership: Provide strategic direction and oversight to the Development and Communications department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Collaborate with senior management and the board to drive fundraising initiatives and maximize revenue generation opportunities.

Corporate Partnerships: Develop and nurture relationships with corporate partners, identify partnership opportunities, and secure sponsorships for special events and community activities. Create meaningful volunteer engagement opportunities for corporate partners to support the organization's mission.

Individual Giving: Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and steward individual donors, expand the donor base, and increase major gifts, appeals, and special event contributions. Oversee the implementation of donor recognition and stewardship programs to foster long-term donor relationships.

Special Events: Lead the planning and execution of annual events, including fundraising galas, donor receptions, and community outreach events. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure successful event management and stakeholder engagement.

Foundation Grants: Work closely with the Grants Manager to identify prospective foundation partners, develop grant proposals, and manage the grant application process from submission to reporting. Cultivate and maintain relationships with foundation representatives to secure funding for organizational programs and initiatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, communications, and leadership roles, with a demonstrated track record of success in generating revenue and managing development operations.

Bachelor's or advanced degree in a relevant field.

Passion for the organization's mission and commitment to advancing youth development and mental health initiatives.

Proven experience in board, committee, and volunteer management, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and motivate diverse stakeholders.

Strategic thinker with visionary leadership skills and the ability to drive innovation and change in fundraising and communication strategies.

Entrepreneurial mindset with a strategic approach to fundraising and donor engagement, including experience in soliciting and closing major gifts.

Exceptional writing, research, and project management skills, with proficiency in special event management and media engagement.

Expertise in digital donor engagement, database management, and fundraising software applications.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, while maintaining attention to detail.

High level of integrity and professionalism, with experience handling confidential information and sensitive issues.

Proficiency in overseeing databases and software for development and communication operations.
