For over 100 years, HeartShare has dedicated itself to improving the lives of people needing special services and support. The HeartShare team, now 2,100 employees and growing, helps individuals develop to their fullest potential and lead meaningful and enriched lives.

Heart Share Human Services of New York has four preschools located in Brooklyn and Queens focused on maximizing the potential of every student no matter the learning disability. Through the use of the creative curriculum and symbolic play each student is provided with an education experience geared towards their individual needs. The Heart Share First Step Early Childhood Centers also provide speech, occupational and physical therapies. The school also includes the family, the most important component of a child’s life, in the educational and therapeutic planning for each student enrolled. Our goal is to work with each child to make them as independent as possible and succeed on their own in their futures. The school operates as a 12-month program including a 6-week summer program. 

The Substitute Teacher Aide, is an important part of the classroom and works with the Special Education 

Teacher and the Teacher's Assistant to create a smooth classroom experience for each child. The 

Teacher Aide reports directly to the Educational Director. Some of the duties the Teacher includes: 

• Assists classroom teacher with non-instructional duties. 
• Participates in classroom team meetings and department and school-wide meetings. 
• Reviews lesson plans with teacher. Sets up PBIS morning routine and learning centers 
• throughout the day. 
• Maintains a clean classroom. Escorts children to and from the bus. Participates in all drills, 
• ensuring the safety of the children. 
• Participates in trainings to maintain ASPIRE account and works toward obtaining NYS Teacher 
• Assistant Certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent, some college preferred 
• 1 or more years of Experience working with the population of preschool students, preferably in Special Education.
