Job Title: Medical Assistant (Eye Clinic)

Position Summary: The Medical Assistant will support nursing staff and providers in the provision of patient care; to include recording vital signs, discussing chief health concerns, performing testing, and assisting with procedures and documentation as required. Phlebotomy skills are required as well as basic word processing and computers skills. Performs basic preliminary screening exam on patient under the supervision of the clinical practice manager and ophthalmologist/optometrist. Provides the provider with pertinent information for ophthalmic exam and care of the patient.

Principles Responsibilities:

• Uses good judgment when providing patient care.
• Performs Heidiberg Retinal Tomography (HRT) and visual field testing.
• Assists with minor office surgeries and laser procedures.
• Completes prior authorization requests for pharmacies.
• Ensure the cleanliness of clinical rooms and stock with supplies.
• Consults with Ophthalmologist regarding messages from patients.
• Neutralization of glasses.
• Back up to Patient Service Representatives.
• Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.
• Observes courtesy standards through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions and pleasant voice tone when in contact with co-workers, providers, patients and visitors.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to patients and co-workers.
• Works effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
• Maintains composure when confronted with job stress or emergency situations.
• Adapts well to change in the workplace.
• Consistent and concise lines of authority and responsibility are maintained.
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

• Must have a certificate or an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited Medical Assisting Program in the State of South Carolina
• One-year customer service experience required.
• Previous work experience in ophthalmology preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
• CPR certification (American Heart Association) preferred.
• Medical Office Experience preferred.
• Knowledge of business office procedures.
• Ability to embody the mission and vision of Cooperative Health.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.
• Ability to communicate with people from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to prioritize, organize and carry out work assignments independently and efficiently.
• Ability to maintain appropriate degree of confidentiality.
• Proficient in use of computer programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.01 - $25.23 per hour
