Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatics, Biomedical Science, Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Nursing or a related degree and four years of professional post-degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master's Degree and three years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field and one year of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in conducting outbreak investigations, hospital infection prevention and control and/or conducting research to reduce healthcare-associated infections, providing technical assistance and training to healthcare providers, presenting research findings to professional/scientific audiences; current certification in infection control (CIC), strong organizational and analytic skills; and excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt them to various audiences and settings.
The Research Scientist 3 is assigned to the Bureau of Healthcare-Associated Infections (BHAI) Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance and Response Program (ARSRP) and stationed in the central office location. The incumbent will perform surveillance, quality improvement activities, and outbreak investigations of healthcare facility-associated infections, focusing on communicable diseases, such as Candida auris and other emerging resistant pathogens, and provide guidance and technical assistance to facilities and other internal and external partners on surveillance methods, infection prevention practices, and outbreak management and reporting. The incumbent will conduct independent studies/research related to these activities.
