    JOB OVERVIEW:


    The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 403b/457 plans.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Insurance and Benefits Duties
    • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility
    • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in BenefitSolver database to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information
    • Assist staff member with all insurance related issues until resolution is secured
    • Maintain ACA reporting, including the tracking of all substitute employee hours to ensure that they will not qualify for benefits
    • Reconcile monthly insurance invoice for health, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability (NIHIP)
    • File and maintain all workers compensation claims including but not limited to the files and notify workers comp company/submit bills/check on injured employees
    • Coordinate with workman’s comp on any safety presentations and prevention
    • Complete and post the annual OSHA report due in January
    • Coordinate with District Licensed Nurse annually to update and distribute student accident information.
    • Maintain annual communication with retirees eligible to continue benefits with premium rates as well as Medicare requirements
    • Issue invoices and track payment for staff who are not having their deductions through paychecks
    • Communicate all insurance related deductions to payroll
    • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA
    • Assist with annual open enrollment - spring for medical and fall for flexible spending.
    • Complete Medicare paperwork for employees and their dependents at age 65
    • Conduct monthly review of dependent age related changes and and inform staff when dependents no longer qualify for District coverage ( children age 26 or spouse age 65)
    • Coordinate with retirees and inform retirees on benefit options post retirement - TRS retirees about the TRIP (Teachers Retirement Insurance Plan), IMRF retirees about District options until medicare eligible insurance
    • Respond to all employee questions about District offered 403b and 457 plans
    • Respond to employee questions about life insurance
    • Assist in leading employee wellness committees, including the coordination of an annual wellness screening
    • Administer the FSA Medical & Dependent Plans

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    • Associates degree in HR or Business preferred
    • Minimum two years experience in office procedure or demonstrated competence in related field preferred
    • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and discretion in performing duties
    • Such alternative to the above qualification as the principal may find appropriate and acceptable
    EVALUATION: Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Business Operations
    TERMS: 12 month position; 8 hours/day
