Harris County is Hiring a System Administrator Near Houston, TX

Position Overview:

This is a system administrator position that maintain, support, and manage web servers used by Harris County. Through collaboration with enterprise architects, Agile web developers, and networking teams, maintain servers for hosting websites on a content management system. Requires extensive understanding of business applications. Works with technical staff to understand and resolve software problems. Resolves customer complaints with software. Responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements from customers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Migrate, scale, automate, and maintain web and database server resources in Microsoft Azure

  • Through research and collaboration, participates in defining and supporting best practices for development in an enterprise environment with focus on usability creativity, scalability, and re-usability.

  • Maintain content management system environment and web servers

  • Support in disaster recovery planning

  • Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting complex website and development problems to provide solutions to overcome those problems with the latest technologies.

  • Prepare detailed specifications from which programs will be written.

  • Migrate sites from one server to another.

  • Collaborate with software architects, UI designers, business analysts, project managers, quality assurance, and deployment teams for the successful development and deployment of business applications.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum (4) years of work in a system administrator role.

  • Hands on experience with cloud hosting services like Microsoft Azure.

  • Maintain IIS web servers.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):

  • High level of problem-solving abilities, client facing expertise, and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Migrate, scale, automate, and maintain web and database server resources in Microsoft Azure

  • Knowledge and experience with maintaining IIS Web Servers

  • Knowledge in Cloud Flare or other caching tools.

  • Experience in maintaining multiple servers and multiple websites at one time.

  • Knowledge and Abilities of working with Content Management Systems

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with both functional and technical requirements.

  • Excellent customer management and change management skills.

  • Ability to work well both as a member of a team and independently.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects at one time.

  • Strong release planning and management skills.

 Automatic Disqualification:

  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor) 
  • Family Violence conviction

Experience:

  • Experience working with .NET developers, modifying HTML, and applying CSS to their C# coded projects.

  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, DevOps.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Experience with DNN Evoq CMS.

  • Knowledge of Content Management Systems in cloud environments.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Monday – Friday | 40hrs

  • Regular Full-time | Onsite Position

  • Hybrid Schedule

  • Full-time, may be required to work more than forty hours during the workweek or on weekends when special projects or deadlines need to be met.

  • Must live or plan to live in the Houston Texas metropolitan area.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
