About Harris County Public Health:Harris County Public Health (HCPH) includes a network of more than 700 public health professionals working together to improve health outcomes for the third most populous county in the United States. Through its core values of innovation, engagement, and health equity, HCPH strives to bring meaningful solutions to public health issues while keeping Harris County healthy and vibrant.Position Overview:Under general supervision, the Education Coordinator LVN will play a vital role in the Immunization Program at Harris County Public Health, assessing and addressing the educational needs related to immunizations within the community. Individuals in this role will be responsible for identifying target populations for outreach, developing and delivering educational presentations on various programs like the Texas Vaccines for Children and Adult Safety Net Programs, and providing training to healthcare providers on vaccine-preventable diseases and vaccine management. Additionally, this position involves advising providers on improving vaccine uptake through strategies like standing orders and reminder/recall systems and serving as a key resource for general vaccine education and technical assistance to both public and private providers as well as the general public.The Education Coordinator LVN is expected to be self-directed with a high degree of critical thinking, independent judgment, and problem-solving ability, and can analyze and report complex financial information to reach sound conclusions and make practical recommendations.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Development and Delivery of Educational Content: Creates and presents educational materials and programs to various groups, including the general public and community stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of immunizations.
  • Training Healthcare Providers: Provides training and guidance to healthcare providers on vaccine-preventable diseases, influenza, adult vaccines, vaccine schedules, recommendations, and management of vaccine loss.
  • Educational Needs Assessment: Assesses the educational needs of the Harris County Public Health Immunization Program, focusing on identifying target populations for effective outreach and education.
  • Program Advocacy and Promotion: Advocates for immunization programs such as the Texas Vaccines for Children Program and Adult Safety Net Program, increasing public awareness and participation.
  • Implementation of Improvement Strategies: Advises and assists healthcare providers in implementing evidence-based strategies like standing orders and reminder/recall systems to enhance vaccine uptake among adults.
  • Technical Assistance and Support: Serves as a regional resource for vaccine-related inquiries, providing technical assistance and education to both public and private immunization providers.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborates with various stakeholders to promote and enhance immunization programs, including the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program and Facility Immunization Assessments.
  • Continuous Learning and Program Updates: Stays up to date on the latest developments in vaccine recommendations and public health strategies, ensuring the program's content and approach remain current and effective.

Education/Licensure/Certifications:
  • Must be licensed or eligible to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • CPR certification required.
  • License and CPR certification must be maintained and current for continued employment.
  • Valid Driver's License
Experience:
  • At least three (3) years in nursing or public health, preferably with experience in immunizations or related programs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed
  • Self-directed with a high degree of critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving ability
  • Ability to analyze and report complex financial information to reach sound conclusions and make practical recommendations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
  • Ability to work well with public and staff members

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
  • Must be able to handle the physical demands of traveling and conducting site visits
