Job Description

Job Summary

The Arts & Jewish Education Program Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating programs within the Arts & Culture and Center for Jewish Living & Learning departments, including several large cultural/educational community programs for adult audiences, such as a Jewish lectures series, events within a Book Festival, one-off performing arts events, and a Shabbat Dinner experience incorporating the arts. The role also involves coordinating smaller Jewish Learning classes for an adult population, as well as for JCC staff. Program coordination entails working closely with the Arts & Culture Director and Chief of Jewish Education to take direction, implement, and coordinate these programs, execute details, and partner with the marketing department to create marketing materials and work on audience outreach. This job requires working evenings and weekends as required for events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

1. Coordinate details of our Adult Jewish Learning classes, which includes working with instructors on class descriptions and ensuring space is set up appropriately. 
2. Coordinate several big events during the Book Festival, partnering with the Arts & Culture Director and committee members and event chairs to coordinate event details and work on event logistics, including creating author itineraries, planning receptions, marketing the event, etc. 
3. Coordinate a scholar-in-residence program by partnering with a committee and other external partners that would be part of the program. Coordinate details for each venue where the scholar will be speaking and create an itinerary for the scholar. 
4. Organize details for performing arts events, including a comedy show and music concert. Work with the agent to confirm details and coordinate with theatre tech to ensure technical details are met for show. 
5. Coordinate details for the a Jewish Studies Lecture Series by partnering with the Rice Jewish Studies Dept, and ensure space is set up appropriately for the events.
6. Create and coordinate a Shabbat dinner experience in a restaurant private room with some element of art incorporated into it. Do research to find restaurant options, and work with the Arts & Culture Director to secure the art piece of it. 
7. Coordinate details for staff Jewish learning experiences with guidance from our Chief of Jewish Education. Teach select staff classes. 
8. Plan receptions at Arts & Culture events, working with our in-house caterer, making sure space is set up appropriately, and booking live music/other entertainment. 

II. COMMUNICATION

1. Work closely with the Book Festival committee, sub-committee chairs, and event chairs on collaborative planning.
2. Coordinate Community Partner program across Arts & Culture, which involves working with lay leaders to reach out to various non-profit organizations for financial support and build audience for programs. 
3. For all programs in the portfolio, work with the marketing department to have them create marketing materials specific to each program, make sure the website and ticketing site have the current information and work on outreach to build an audience. 

III. ADMINISTRATION

1. Maintain and monitor program budgets
2. Process all paperwork for programs. 
3. Communicate with instructors for Jewish Learning classes and ensure their hiring paperwork has been completed. 
4. Do payroll for Jewish Learning instructors. 

IV. AGENCY EXPECTATIONS

1. Attend monthly staff meetings
2. Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs

Qualifications


1. Minimum requirement of bachelor’s degree in business, Jewish Education, Event Planning, Communications, Jewish Studies, Fine Arts, or related required. 
2. 2-3 years’ experience in Jewish non-profit, Jewish Education, event planning, or arts management. 
3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
4. Excellent communication skills. Able to interact professionally with all levels of internal and external personnel. 
5. Deadline/Task orientated. 
6. High energy, proactive, requiring little direction, takes responsibility.
7. Understanding of Jewish culture and education to plan programs in this area and teach a staff for class.
8. Team oriented. 
9. Willingness to be flexible and available to work evenings and weekends as required for special events. 
10. Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aides in member satisfaction and getting the job done.
