Job Description

Job Summary

The Youth Performing Arts Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating the Youth Theatre, Dance, and Music programs at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center. This role includes roughly 15 hours a week of instructional time across theatre and dance classes, with the remainder of the time spent providing administrative and production support for the programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Youth Dance Program Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the instructor for one or two dance classes each semester.
  2. Assist in the creation of the yearly dance class calendar. Submit all dance classes into the back-end class registration program, and work with marketing to help advertise and fill classes.
  3. Manage the yearly dance recital. The coordinator will select the theme, order costumes, secure additional staff and volunteers, and oversee all of the technical needs for the recital.
  4. Supervise current dance instructors, and submit their payroll in a timely manner. Recruit and hire new dance teachers as needed.
  5. Create and manage all class-related communications with dance students and families.
  6. Keep up-to-date class rosters and attendance sheets for each class.
  7. Keep stock of all dance class supplies, and replenish as needed.

Youth Theatre Program Responsibilities

  1. Serve as Director for the Spotlight program (1st-2nd graders), serve as Assistant Director for the Second Stage program (6th-8th graders), assist with the Teen Stagecraft Studio (6th-8th graders), and teach all Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 classes.
  2. Assist in the selection of shows for each season, and apply for all licensing in a timely manner.
  3. Submit all theatre classes into the back-end class registration program.
  4. Assist in the top-of-semester class duties, including making script copies, sending out parent communications, and preparing each classroom.
  5. Identify and oversee parent volunteer opportunities throughout each semester.
  6. Assist in the creation of the show playbills – take headshots of the actors, collect and edit actor bios, and design all of the tribute ads.
  7. Assist with all production needs for each semester’s shows – help pull/borrow/make props and costumes, assist with costume fittings, paint scenery, and coordinate with scenic and lighting designers.
  8. Be on hand to help with all technical rehearsals and performances – serve as a backstage crew member for all shows, assist with change-overs from one show to the next, and help with final strike at the end of each semester.
  9. Assist with the annual trip to the Junior Theatre Festival. Help with the audition process, assist with rehearsals, and attend the festival itself.
  10. Assist in the organization and maintenance of our theatre stock – sets, props, and costumes.
  11. Help curate content for our social media accounts – rehearsal photos/footage, publicity pictures, and production photos.

Youth Music Program Responsibilities

  1. Connect students with private voice instructors, and collect payment from families as they sign up for lessons. Track lessons as they are used and communicate with families if they need to register for more lessons.
  2. Book rooms and manage the schedule for all group and private lessons.
  3. Provide support and resources to the music/voice teachers as needed.

Summer Camp Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the Assistant Camp Director for all Performing Arts Camps each summer. This includes direct service as the lead instructor for three to four camps each summer.
  2. Assist in the planning of summer camp – attend regular Camp Director meetings throughout the year, assist in the creation of the camp schedule, help write camp descriptions, and support the camp team as needed.
  3. Help recruit and hire camp counselors and teaching staff. Supervise the dance camp staff and the non-performing theatre camp staff, and submit their payroll in a timely manner.
  4. Create and manage all camp-related communications, including welcome emails and end-of-camp emails.
  5. Create the rosters, attendance sheets, and the counselor binder for each camp.
  6. Manage the supply budget. Make any necessary purchases and track all expenses so that the spending stays at/under budget.

Qualifications


  1. Bachelor's degree in performing arts, dance, or another related field, or equivalent field experience.
  2. 1-3 years' experience teaching children’s theatre and/or dance.
  3. Must be able to work nights and weekends on a regular basis. Candidate should be willing and able to work a non-traditional schedule.
  4. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, general email, communication, and calendar systems.
  5. Candidate should be a team player, with the ability to work with many different personalities across different artistic disciplines.
  6. Candidate must be a highly motivated, independent self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at any given time.
  7. Ability to serve as an advocate for the agency and represent the J in a professional manner throughout the industry.
