Director of Finance

Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Part Time

Hours: 25-30 hours per week (flexible schedule available). No weekends.

Location: Maple Shade, NJ

Compensation: $48.00 - $55.00 per hour

The Director of Finance is responsible for the Management of Accounting Operations, Financial Reporting, and Cash/Asset Management for Habitat for Humanity SCNJ. This position will oversee the Accounting Manager & Accounting Coordinator and reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Primary Duties and Responsibility include but not limited to:

Management of Accounting Operations

  • Maintaining chart of accounts and proper accounting records.

  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.

  • Verify accuracy of payables on an as-needed basis.

  • Verify accuracy of accounts payable vs. quotes.

  • Prepare all month-end journal entries

  • Reconcile account balances with bank accounts (receivables, escrows, and donations) by sub-ledger system.

  • Prepare monthly asset and liability account reconciliations

  • Monitor compliance with document retention policies

  • Monitor/handle all issues involving credit cards including compliance with Payment Card Industry standards and merchant services.

  • Monitor internal controls and develop additional controls where needed

  • Prepare information for annual financial audit and lead the timeline to complete the annual CPA audit in a timely manner.

  • Ensure timely completion of all company tax returns.

Financial Reporting – in collaboration with CFO

  • Aid the CFO in generating the monthly financial statements.

  • Prepare financial documentation, as needed, for grant funders

  • Prepare quarterly reports as necessary for grantors.

  • Lead the annual budget process.

  • Aid the CFO with preparation of the financial analysis reports on a monthly basis for the CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Directors. Reporting includes but is not limited to Home Building Budget vs Actual, Mortgage Delinquency/Arrearage Reporting, Affiliate and Department Budget vs Actual Reporting and the Affiliate Dashboard.

Cash/Asset Management

  • Reconcile and monitor daily cash receipts from ReStore operations and petty cash accounts

  • Maintain employee credit card access, limits, reporting and documentation

  • Manage multiple checking and savings account, assuring proper balances.

  • Daily Cash Reporting to CFO

Other Duties

  • Along with the CFO maintain a strong relationship with our Liability Insurance Company.

  • Primary contact for Auto, Workers Comp, General Liability and other misc insurance policy claims.

  • Complete Annual Workers Compensation audit with the aid of the HR Manager.

  • Complete Annual Auto, Workers Comp, General Liability and other misc. insurance policy renewals on an annual basis.

  • Aid the HR Manager with Unemployment Insurance reporting as needed.

  • Secondary contact for the third party IT firm. Aid Accounting Manager in maintaining a strong relationship with the third party IT firm.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and financial accuracy.

  • Knowledge of non-profit and construction accounting a plus.

  • Must be able to maintain a general ledger chart of accounts.

  • Overseeing payroll processing by following applicable regulations.

  • Month-end closing duties in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Knowledge of basic Human Resources management preferred.

  • Experience interaction with a third party IT firm a plus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

  • 5-10 years progressive accounting experience preferred.

  • Must have ability to work in the day-to-day financial details, as well as analyze the organization from a high level.

  • Proficient in Excel and QuickBooks.
