Job/Position Title: Senior (Sr.) System Administrator

Department Name: Engineering

Job Location: Dayton, Ohio 45402

Position Summary:

  • Under the immediate supervision of the IT Director, the Sr. System Administrator works closely with the IT staff to understand current and upcoming system/technology needs and designs our technology environment to accommodate those needs. The Sr. System Administrator at RTA plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing our IT infrastructure. He/She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our systems, ensuring optimum availability, security, and performance. He/She will have extensive experience in system administration, a strong problem-solving mindset, and a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technologies. The Sr. System Administrator will work with the System Administrator to ensure all regularly scheduled jobs and tasks are completed successfully and monitors the environment for performance errors/issues.

Essential Functions:

  • System Maintenance: Perform regular system maintenance tasks, including patch management, software upgrades, and system monitoring to ensure optimum performance and security.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex system and network issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams when necessary.
  • Security: Implement and maintain security measures to safeguard systems and data from unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
  • Infrastructure Management: Manage and enhance the organization's server infrastructure, storage solutions, and virtualization environments.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Automation: Identify opportunities for automation to streamline system administration tasks and improve efficiency.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor system performance and plan for capacity upgrades as needed to support business growth.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with IT and cross-functional teams to implement new technologies and support various projects.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Position Type & Expected Schedule: Full Time. Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. On-call rotation per business needs.

Travel: Less than 15%, within US and some overnight.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) years managing Active Directory, complex integrated systems, enterprise class networked server and storage environments.
  • Proven knowledge of scripting and automating routine tasks.
  • Proficient with computer software systems including Excel spreadsheets, word processing (Word), e-mail (Outlook), Desktop Publishing, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information: This is a full time, exempt pay grade 18 position with an initial hiring range of $69,075 (minimum) to $86,344 (midpoint).
