Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Human Resources Manager

Type of position: Non-exempt/ Hourly

Employee Classification: Regular

Location: Bryson City, NC

Compensation: $22-29 hourly

Job Summary: In conjunction with the HR Manager coordinate, implement, and oversee the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for GSMR. Work as part of the HR department performing daily functions including recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, off-boarding, administering benefits, compliance tracking, and enforcing company policies and procedures. This is a versatile position handling a multitude of responsibilities and tasks and will be expected to ensure efficient handling of day-to-day coordination for the human resources department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit adequate qualified staff for GSMR through a variety of means including internal job positing program, free and paid job postings sites, print advertising, etc.
  • Coordinate and complete the hiring process for conditional employment applicants: criminal history background checks, MVRs, Fit-for-duty physical assessment testing, drug testing, reference checks, other post-offer requirements that the company may choose to use prior to employment.
  • Accurately produce and process all employment-related paperwork.
  • Schedule and conduct new employee and volunteer orientations; assist with safety orientation when requested.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating GSMR Employee Handbook and Policies as needed.
  • Assist HR Manager with managing workers’ injury & illness program including claim generation and reporting, provider designation, file maintenance, modified work assignments, incident reduction programs as needed.
  • Assist HR Manager when needed with Drug and Alcohol program. Schedule, monitor, and document random drug and/or alcohol testing. Review all drug and alcohol results to ensure GSMR has proper documentation.
  • Provide resources to GSMR and its managers and supervisors for all disciplinary action including assisting as needed to mediate and resolve employee relations issues; conduct and assist with thorough and objective investigations when necessary.
  • Assist department managers with annual company-wide performance appraisal process.
  • Create, update, and edit job descriptions in conjunction with department managers to accurately portray vacancies.
  • Assist with organizing and implementing employee training and development.
  • Respond to unemployment claims, employment verifications, and wage audits.
  • Assist employees with benefit enrollment to include health, dental, vision, health savings account, and 401(k). 
  • Assist HR Manager as a benefit liaison for GSMR employees: health-related benefits, EAP, FMLA/LOA, disability claims, and 401(k).
  • Administer bi-weekly processes required to compile, review, and submit GSMR payroll for processing in the absence of the HR Manager.
  • Order, maintain, and distribute uniform and nametag inventory according to department needs and within established budget. 
  • Plan, organize, implement employee meetings and annual employee dinner.
  • Actively pursue education/training opportunities designed to lead to a degree in Human Resources or Professional Certification through SHRM.
  • Coordinate employee user set up, change orders, and terminations through Seccuro and/or third-party administrator. 
  • Coordinate the phone system to include setup, change orders, and termination. 
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with GSMR policy, procedures, and safety program including safety rules, operating rules, and attend safety committee meetings.
  • Other duties, projects, assignments requested by VP/GM and/or HR Manager. 

Requirements

Education, Skill, and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Two years experience in HR position, Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business Administration or related field preferred. 
  • Computer skills including PDF merging, Microsoft 365: Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, To-Do.
  • Use of excellent non-verbal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse variety of personalities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, time management skill with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with an ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop staff members while providing both positional and functional leadership.
  • Knowledge of employment related laws and regulations. 
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Work Environment:

  • Work in an office setting, primarily Monday-Friday.
  • Out of office work includes attending job fairs, career fairs and hiring events in all weather conditions.
