Overview

Under the general supervision of the Division Vice President of Operations, oversees a specific geographic region consisting of 50-70 stores. Leads, directs, and sets goals and procedures with District Managers to ensure the overall store conditions comply with GPM standards including cleanliness, customer service and merchandising, thereby maximizing operations profit and cash. Profit and Loss responsibility for region.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct District Managers, including store assignments, training and development, and performance standards set forth by the company
  • Implement operating and administration policies and procedures in stores, establish standards of performance to ensure increased sales.
  • Monitor gasoline and merchandise sales and pricing, recommending adjustments to optimize volume and margin dollars.
  • Recommend significant gasoline price movement (up or down) to gain (or avoid losing) market share.
  • Approve in-store staffing levels, labor assignments and expenses.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for District Managers and assist in evaluation of Administrative Assistant. Prepare self-evaluation for DVP of Operations.
  • Prepare preliminary operating budgets for approval by DVP Of Operations and SVP of Operations.
  • Prepare annual capital expenditures budget.
  • Personally approves the termination of all employees with five or more years of service and all management personnel. Approve all gross misconduct terminations.
  • Direct and provide support for District Managers, through assistance in the areas of merchandising and human resources and aiding in the setting of objectives and action plans.
  • Ensure merchandise and gasoline sales are maximized by monitoring store conditions, in-stock efficiency, pricing, and customer service.
  • Analyzes Financial Statements, Merchandise Reports, and other PDI Reports for discrepancies, makes recommendations on ways to maximize profit, and corrects problem areas while controlling expenses.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and repair of all physical plants and equipment within region.
  • Introduces and implements merchandising programs while maintaining awareness of competitive pricing and a good in-store merchandising image; monitors and reports vendor problems such as out-of-stock items and follow-up to ensure improvements are made.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and maintain quality and productive employees within the region.
  • Ensures that store managers have been assigned and understand their objectives and responsibilities and that the necessary resources are available to achieve those goals.
  • Ensures all government regulations and company programs are followed including: Robbery Prevention, Age-Restricted Sales, Customer Service, Safety, Cash Handling and Banking Procedures, Discrimination and Sexual Harassment Prevention, Labor Laws.
  • Institutes and coordinates special store promotions.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement marketing programs within the area to assist in increasing average transaction size and customer count.
  • Responsible for maintaining key vendor relations in the region, identifying areas of opportunity, and coordinating local market programs for additional sales and profits.
  • Ensure proper use of human resources to insure performance improvement and people development. Management style should be participatory by setting measurable expectations or strategic direction, provide positive feedback, and rewards or solutions for results produced.
  • Plan and schedule regular store rides with District Managers. Provide feedback to District Managers on areas of opportunities. Recap visits to DVP of Operations. Monitor progress according to recaps and provide one-on-one coaching as needed.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and presenting the proper company image in the local markets to include contacts with community relations, key legislative leaders, and charitable organizations.
  • Other job-related duties as requested by the DVP of Operations

  • Must be able to read, analyze and interpret financial statements and records as well as computer hardware and software applications especially Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PDI systems
  • Knowledgeable of basic laws and regulations
  • Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures
  • People oriented having the ability to develop all supporting staff from entry to executive level
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Proven track record of success, led by example management style, excellent communication skills, and a drive for excellence
  • Able to develop a climate of integrity and trust through open communication, consistency and appropriate responses to mistakes and individual performance issues
  • Valid Driver’s license and operable vehicle
  • Insurance on vehicle
  • Frequent localized travel and overnight travel
