Background

Good Samaritan Community Services is a 501(c) 3 organization that provides comprehensive services to more than 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in various locations in South and West Texas. Since 1939 we have focused on serving the social, educational and health equity needs of our neighbors and our mission to actively serve as a catalyst for change, supporting youth, individuals, and families by providing excellent community services to overcome economic poverty.

We do this through a continuum of services designed to stabilize families, establish nurturing relationships, and foster self-sufficiency in those we serve through the programs and supports we provided via our Family Services and Youth and Teen Departments. Good Samaritan began as a downtown mission of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1939 and was established as an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas in 1951 under the leadership of Bishop Everett Jones in 1951.

Position Summary
The Lead Asset Builder is responsible for developing assets in youth by building personal relationships, developing and delivering exciting lesson plans based on the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets, supervising engaging program activities, and supporting daily program operations. This position works with youth primarily in middle school and high school during the school day.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelors Degree from accredited college in Education, Social Sciences, or related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with youth required.
  • Experience with database management systems preferred. Knowledge of word processing software and email required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred according to business needs and requirements.

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of Good Samaritan Community Services. Use the 40 Developmental Assets framework as a guide to developing program activities.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans in accordance with program policy and procedure.
  • Deliver leadership activities, recreation, and other program activities as needed.
  • Chaperone field trips and other off campus activities as needed.
  • Focus service delivery on youth in middle school and high school to build positive relationships.
  • Report participant progress and or significant events to supervisor.
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Deliver services within contract compliance and prepare and submit monthly contract paperwork and reports as needed.
  • Ensure all program and agency data is entered into appropriate data systems timely and accurately.
  • Complete other duties as assigned based on program and/or agency needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages volunteers, interns, and/or work study students when assigned.

Work Environment
This job operates in a business casual environment.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, one must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, type, and occasionally lift between 25-50 pounds of food and other products. These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evenings and weekend hours based on program needs.

Travel
Local travel is required.

Benefits and Compensation
A competitive compensation package will be offered for this position based upon the successful candidates education, skills, and experience.

Pay: $16.00 - $16.50 per hour
