Background

Good Samaritan Community Services is a 501(c) 3 organization that provides comprehensive services to more than 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in various locations in South and West Texas. Our ministry began in 1939, and since then we have focused on serving our neighbors' social, educational, and health equity needs.

Our mission is to actively serve as a catalyst for change, supporting youth, individuals, and families by providing excellent community services to overcome economic poverty. We do this through the programs and supports we provide via our Family Services and Youth and Teen Departments.

They provide a continuum of services designed to stabilize families by providing training and program that help them establish nurturing relationships and foster self-sufficiency.

Good Samaritan began as a downtown mission of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1939 and was established as an institution of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas in 1951 under the leadership of Bishop Everett Jones.

Position Summary
The Lead Classroom Instructor (Lead Asset Builder) is responsible for developing assets in youth by building personal relationships, developing, and delivering exciting lesson plans based on the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets, supervising engaging program activities, and supporting daily program operations. This position works with youth primarily in grades 4 through 12 during and after the school day.

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college in Education, Social Sciences, or related field preferred.
• Two years of experience working with youth required.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Experience with database management systems preferred. Knowledge of word processing software and email required.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred according to business needs and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate adherence to the CORE values of Good Samaritan Community Services.
• Use the 40 Developmental Assets framework as a guide to developing program activities.
• Develop and deliver lesson plans in accordance with program policy and procedure.
• Deliver leadership activities, recreation, and other program activities as needed.
• Chaperone field trips and other off campus activities as needed.
• Focus service delivery on youth in grades 4 through 12 and build positive relationships.
• Report participant progress and or significant events to supervisor.
• Assist with outreach and recruitment efforts.
• Deliver services as required by our contracts with the local funders and prepare and submit monthly data and performance reporting as needed.
• Ensure all program and agency data is entered into appropriate data systems timely and accurately.
• Complete other duties as assigned based on program and/or agency needs.

Work Environment
This job requires the ability to work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.

Physical Demands
Movement of documents and materials is required. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, one must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, type, have close vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus with good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift between 25-35 pounds. These physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Travel
Some local and regional travel is required.

Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekend hours based on program needs.

Benefits and Compensation
The salary range is $14.00 to 16.50/hr. A competitive compensation package will be offered for this position based upon the successful candidate’s education, skills, and experience and includes a generous paid time off policy, matching retirement plan and a full complement of insurance benefits.
