Banquet Captain

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Job Summary

The Banquet Captain supervises banquet functions for the Club when the Food & Beverage Manager or Assistant Food & Beverage Manager is not available and assists the Banquet Manager during the function. Ensures that member satisfaction standards are consistently attained. The Banquet Captain manages the service of members and guests in the dining room. He/she supervises the dining room staff, greets and seats guests, maintains order and cleanliness and assures that member satisfaction standards are consistently attained.


Job Tasks (including but not limited to)

  • Coordinates food service between kitchen and service staff.
  • Inspects all linens daily for proper appearance.
  • Enforces established Club rules, regulations and policies.
  • Reviews table diagrams, guest tables and other function room set-up needs for special functions.
  • Conducts daily line-up (when the Restaurant Manager is not available) to ensure smooth, efficient service; assigns server stations and coordinates the timing of courses.
  • Ensures that all staff are well-groomed and in proper uniform.
  • Assists with inventory of all banquet and dining room service equipment and supplies to meet required needs.
  • Assists with training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating of service staff.
  • Inspects dining room to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness and safety.
  • Receives and greets members and guests.
  • Completes a post operation report to improve quality and efficiency of all dining room and banquet activities.
  • Ensures that all appropriate charges are billed correctly to each event and table and forward the charges to the accounting department.
  • Attends catering meeting when possible.
  • Manages the inventory of all service ware.
  • Interacts with banquet host or hostess to assure all needs are being met.
  • May serve “VIP” guests.
  • Assures that state and local laws and the club’s policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
  • Resolves member and guest complaints.
  • Provides layout and design recommendations to applicable managers.
  • Suggests dining room decorations for special themes.
  • Assures that pre-opening cleaning tasks are assigned and completed as required.
  • Assists with service of food and beverages in outlets and for special functions when needed.
  • Assists with table clearing and re-setting as needed.
  • Suggests when additional service supplies and small equipment are needed.
  • Assists in dining room inventory assessments.
  • Suggests daily specials to all members and guests.
  • Coordinates any special requests including dietary needs with the executive chef.

Education/Experience

    • High School diploma or GED; the ability to read, write and execute basic math skills are necessary.
    • Hospitality degree a plus
    • 2 years of fine dining experience required.
    • Previous private club experience preferred.
    • Have a high level of interpersonal skills to communicate policies, procedures and objectives
    • Professional reference required.


Physical Requirements

    • Frequent bending, stooping, pulling, lifting
    • Continuous standing, walking, repetitive actions for extended periods of time
    • Heat sensitive environment
    • Must be able to lift and balance large oval tray with plates.
    • Must be able to carry and balance cocktail tray with Champagne flutes.

Education/Experience
x High School diploma or GED; the ability to read, write and execute basic math skills are necessary.

x Hospitality degree a plus x 2 years of fine dining experience required. x Previous private club experience preferred.

x Have a high level of interpersonal skills to communicate policies, procedures and objectives

x Professional reference required.
