Glendale Community College is Hiring a Welding Instructor- 100% One Year Contract Near Glendale, CA

Glendale Community College seeks individuals who are equity-minded leaders, committed to student success and closing equity gaps, to apply for its Full-Time (100%), One Year Contract Welding Instructor position. We especially encourage individuals who bring perspectives from lived experiences that our students from underrepresented groups at GCC will connect to and uniquely benefit from in their learning journey at our college.This is a full-time (100%), one year contract classroom teaching assignment, in the Welding department of the Technology and Aviation division. The current teaching load is 21 instructional hours per week. Members of the full-time faculty will hold five office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development, and campus committees is required. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and hybrid format, evening and/or Saturday classes. 
Start Date: Fall 2024
Teach courses in Welding using various teaching methods including demonstrations, active learning strategies and lecture.
 
Teaches Welding theories and methods and applications within an active Welding laboratory environment.
 
Maintains the Welding laboratory with instructional materials/supplies and ensures that equipment is fully functional.
 
Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, equipment/supplies inventory etc.
 
Maintains currency in the industry/occupation by participating in professional development and implementation of industry advisory committee.
 
Maintain regular posted office hours and be accessible to students.
 
Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
 
Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program.
 
Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, faculty meetings, etc.)
 
Participate in staff development and continuing education activities that are designed to maintain and develop currency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and online teaching and learning), and student support strategies, especially as they relate to student equity initiatives.
 
Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program, and Student Learning Outcomes in support of Glendale Community College's Mission Statement.
 
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and others encountered in the course of work.
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
 
Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.
Any Bachelor's or higher and two years of experience in welding AND any certificate or license required to do that work OR any Associate's degree AND six years of experience in welding AND any certificate or license required to do that work OR the equivalent.Desirable QualificationsCollege teaching experience in welding technology and/or related subjects and recent experience in the field of welding.Experience in developing curriculum for welding courses, course syllabi, lesson plans, student learning outcomes, and assessments for welding technology courses.Personal AWS certifications in Certified Welding Inspector, Certified Welding Educator, Structured Steel, and Aerospace welding desirable.Knowledge and understanding of the theory and practical application of GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, PAC, OFW and OFC. 
Knowledge about or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher academia, with the goal of reducing equity gaps.

Teaching experience that reflects innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Experience with the development and teaching of distance education classes.

Salary, Health and Welfare Benefits
Starting salary is from $67,930 to $94,046 per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Glendale College Guild, Local 2276, Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additionally, information regarding health and welfare benefits may be found in Article XI.
