Description

Job Title: Human Resources Manager*

Department: Human Resources

Reports to: Chief Strategy Officer

Classification: Salary-Exempt, Full-time

Salary Grade: SH1 (scale starts at $40,000)*

*Depending on candidate interest and qualification, this position may be available as a director-level role, with related duties and an increased compensation scale.

**Willing to compensate extra for bi-lingual speakers (Spanish or Hmong)**

Job Summary:

This is a professional position that manages all aspects of the council’s human resources (HR) functions. Design and implement legally sound HR practices and policies that will support strategic business goals and fulfill the organization’s workforce needs as economic conditions change. It is critical that this person have the ability to interact with all levels of the organization, respond well to pressure, is resourceful and efficient, and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Serves as a functional subject matter expert and may supervise human resources staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. In partnership with the Chief Strategy Officer, manage employee benefits including agent and carrier selection, enrollment, monthly administration, and invoice processing.

2. Manage personnel records of all current and past employees and ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee information.

3. Manage an effective recruitment program including recruiting, job posting, screening, hiring employees to fill vacant or new positions, and new employee onboarding.

4. Manage employee separation notices and related documentation and conduct exit interviews.

5. Manage processes encouraging employee engagement including annual performance management and reviews, employee engagement survey, stay interviews, and professional development.

6. Interpret, administer, propose changes, and publish personnel policies and procedures. Responsible to remain current on and interpret employment law.

7. Manage internship program including developing and maintaining relationships with area colleges to connect with student interns.

8. In partnership with the Chief Strategy Officer, is responsible for hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of any operational staff in human resources department; organize and direct work toward the achievement of council strategies and objectives.

9. Support the development and maintenance of the HR departmental budget and corresponding resource allocations.

10. Active participation in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.

11. Support council functions through promotion of council sponsored activities. Promote the Girl Scout culture of philanthropy by cultivating and building relationships with donors.

12. Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.

· Active Listening – Skillfully uses active listening techniques to create dialogue and build relationships with potential new members, volunteers, staff and communities.

· Oral and Written Communication abilities (i.e. In person, verbal, written, and/or phone); expresses ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner appropriate for the individual or group; listens to and comprehends what others are saying; prepares organized and structured presentations; has demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of sensitive and confidential issues and communicate effectively with a diverse group of girls, volunteers, and staff.

· Interpersonal Relations - Establishes rapport with others at all organizational levels; respects others; considers and responds to the needs, feelings, and capabilities of others; establishes and maintains an open dialogue with others; has demonstrated ability to market the Girl Scout value proposition through a variety of communication venues, with particular emphasis on in person communication in one-to-one, small group, and large group settings.

· Networking - Maintains and fosters contacts inside and/or outside the council to gather information, receive support, and solve problems; actively maintains a presence in Girl Scout activities, professional and community organizations, and in the workplace; builds new relationships and collaborations with community members (for example, vendors and business partners) to help address Girl Scouting goals, promote visibility, and cultivate membership.

· Excellent technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, customer relationship management systems, and social networking

Requirements

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience required. HR certification of PHR from HRCI or SHRM-CP from SHRM preferred or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

· Minimum of four years of human resources management experience.

· Experience working with a non-profit helpful.

· Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including public speaking skills required.

· Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook and database programs.

· Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation. Occasional travel is required.

· Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines and multiple priorities.

· The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to walk, and to frequently operate office equipment manually. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
