Job Description

Job Description
Salary: $35,000-$38,000 annually

Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep GHRC’s Testing Center running efficiently. The Medical Assistant will work directly at the testing center or through the Mobile Health Unit to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in basic examinations. This position may require evening hours.

Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:

  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Provides HIV and HCV rapid testing.
  • Provides STI testing and prepare samples.
  • Draws blood, prepare samples, and delivers samples to labs.
  • Retrieves results from lab and forward to appropriate providers.
  • Interprets test results to patients in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Provides follow-up care to patients via phone, text, share media, and/or client’s preferred method.
  • Conducts blood pressures, cholesterol, and diabetes tests as well as taking vitals: checks clients’ weight and chart history.
  • Enters data into Electronic Health Record System and SPARS, maintaining client records.
  • Secures client information and maintains client confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, keeping patient information confidential.
  • Contacts insurance/patient assistant programs for pre-approvals as needed.
  • Contacts patients for follow up and delivery of results as needed.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies stocked by managing inventory, restocking supplies, and verifying receipts.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines relating to proper use of handling PPE, needles, bloodborne pathogens, and disposing of biohazardous materials.
  • Serves and protects the agency by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.

Qualifications needed to perform duties:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistance Certification with extensive experience in phlebotomy, required.
  • 2 years of qualified experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of HIV, HCV, and STI testing, required.
  • Ability to adhere to OSHA regulations, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally as well as in writing.
  • Displays strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with staff in a professional, calm, patient, and welcoming manner.
  • Possesses strong time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail when processing paperwork.
  • Exceptional attendance record with the ability to consistently arrive to work on time.
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
  • Ability to work in a high-stressed environment and interact with marginalized individuals and communities.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Displays respect for peers, supervisors, and clients.
