Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition is Hiring a Prevention Specialist Near Atlanta, GA

Under the supervision of the Prevention Team Lead and Field Supervisor, the Prevention Specialist will conduct targeted outreach, screening, counseling, identification and linkage, condom and supply distribution, and PrEP recruitment to high-risk individuals over the age of 18 including but not limited to African-American males and females and their sexual partners, men who have sex with men (MSM), Sex workers, people who use substance/inject drugs and multi-substance users, young adults, and homeless regardless of their race. This position will be required to attend non traditional schedule, outreach, events, and attend local, regional and national training.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Develop recruitment plans to identify and engage program participants
  • Provide effective condom education and distribute condoms to high risk individuals.
  • Helps clients develop the skills they need to practice safer sex and negotiate condom use
  • Conducts targeted outreach to high-risk individuals. Engage individuals in their own neighborhoods or venues where they typically congregate to provide HIV/HAV/HCV/Syphilis related health information, education, referrals, and linkage to services.
  • Provide HIV/HCV/Syphilis screening (point of care and self testing) and counseling and Referrals as needed to at-risk populations in compliance with strict standards of CDC and Departments of Health.
  • Review and ensure that all client paperwork is complete in its entirety
  • Maintains accurate and complete participant records, tracking contact, participation, outreach, counseling, testing, and referrals performance as defined by evidence-based models and local/state/federal entities.
  • Ensures maintenance of Mobile Health Unit (MHU) by creating an inventory checklist and requesting supplies when needed.
  • Adheres to strict procedures of confidentiality, release of information and data security.
  • Represents the organization at community events and meetings when assigned.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Outreach Team Lead and Prevention Manager
  • Accurately enter data into appropriate database systems including but not limited to Evaluation Web and EHR.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years of qualified experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Experience related to HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and STD policies and programs training
  • Experience and certificate on HIV and VH testing and counseling

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work flexible schedule including late nights and weekends
  • Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and make sound decisions in crisis situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally as well as in writing
  • Displays strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with clients in a professional, calm, patient and friendly manner
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail when processing paperwork
  • Strong ability to accurately enter and report data
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
  • Exceptional attendance with the ability to arrive to outreach events and shifts on time
  • Must be able to work late night and weekend shifts throughout all seasons
  • Displays respect for peers, supervisors and clients
  • Spanish Fluency is a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs at times
  • Ability to adjust to flexible schedules as published by the department manager.
  • Ability to work efficiently in adverse weather conditions.
