Georgia Harm Reduction Coalition is Hiring a Direct Services Specialist Near Mountain, GA

Classification: Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Reports To: Client Services Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Classification Level: Entry

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Client Services Manager, the Direct Services Specialist will perform duties including but not limited to outreach, education, food and supply distribution, and providing access to resources including referrals to high risk individuals including but not limited to African-American males and females and their sexual partners, men who have sex with men (MSM), Sex workers, people who use substance/inject drugs and multi-substance users, young adults, and homeless regardless of their race. This position will require to attend non-traditional schedules, outreach, events, and attend local, regional and national training.

Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:

  • Greets and welcomes clients as they enter the facility; answers the phone in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Assists clients with intake paperwork relating to homeless verification and distributes hygiene kits, groceries, and Narcan to appropriate clients.
  • Preps and distributes groceries/snacks, clothes, and supplies (hygiene kits, condom packets, Narcan, etc) for clients.
  • Assists with group facilitation by keeping track of time, recruiting clients to attend sessions, and providing support to the facilitator during group sessions when needed.
  • Oversees the syringe exchange operations within designated communities, distributes essential supplies.
  • Oversees the phone and computer lab while assisting clients with inquiries and manages time slots for use of the phone and computer lab/printer.
  • Provides outreach support with voter registration in designated communities.
  • Assist individuals in obtaining essential and support services (e.g. housing)
  • Ensures daily stocking and upkeep of designated facility areas including but not limited to bathroom, food pantry, clothing closet, storage, lobby area, group room, and computer lab.
  • Adheres to strict policies and procedures of confidentiality, release of information and data security.
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Excellent skills in public speaking
  • Ability to work independently
  • May be required to work nights and weekends hours.
  • Performs additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Ability to be the primary driver for any center/ outreach related needs.

Data Requirements

  • Is responsible for all data collection and reporting for the syringe exchange operations.
  • Is responsible for inventory of syringe exchange supplies and communicating purchasing needs to the Client Service Manager.
  • Chart patient retention navigation progress and reporting through data entry; maintain client files according to program protocols.
  • Ability to report data and ensure timely and accurate data entry and reporting.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of qualified experience; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience related to HIV, HCV, and/or STI policies and programs training
  • Experience related to delivery of substance use behavioral interventions
  • Experience working with medical providers in linking clients to care
  • Experience in navigating insurance and/or patient assistance programs

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality and make sound decisions in crisis situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally as well as in writing.
  • Displays strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with clients in a professional, calm, patient, and friendly manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail when processing paperwork.
  • Strong ability to accurately enter and report data.
  • Highly motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and in a group environment.
  • Ability to work in a high-stressed environment and interact with marginalized individuals and communities.
  • Must be able to work late night and weekend shifts throughout all seasons.
  • Displays respect for peers, supervisors, and clients.
  • Ensures that the van is kept clean at all times.
  • Knowledge of company and department specific protocols and SOPs
  • Upkeep of the clothing closet
  • Must have a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to life up to 50 lbs at times
  • Participation in community outreach which involves prolonged periods of standing (Community Outreach initiatives occur year-round)
  • Ability to travel as needed to partnering agencies (personal transportation required).
  • Ability to adjust to flexible schedules as published by the department manager.
  • Ability to work efficiently in adverse weather conditions
