Project Director, O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law - Georgetown University Law Center
The O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law was established in 2007 through the generous philanthropy of Linda and Timothy O'Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing global health concerns. In bringing together experts from both the public health and legal fields, the O'Neill Institute reflects the importance of public and private law in health policy analysis.
Job Overview
The Project Director , collaborating with the O'Neill Institute Initiative Director, identifies critical issues, conducts the highest level of policy analysis, develops scholarship, and translates research and evidence into policy. They independently manage a large project portfolio and research program, as well as design and develop major program components, including the strategy, policy and processes of the Initiative; and plan, direct, and control program budget for all projects under their direct purview.
The Initiative Director and the Project Director work with the Addiction Policy and Practice team to develop comprehensive analysis of policies, identify pathways for policy implementation, and seek funding for projects to achieve these ends. As well, they identify promising policies and policy proposals and formulate innovative policy responses, develop scholarship to introduce, elaborate upon, and share these ideas with the addiction and public health community, collaborate with public health thought leaders, undertake communication efforts, and engage policymakers to act on proposed responses in the near-term as well as - by influencing the discourse - seek to affect policy responses over time.
The Project Director leads on funded projects and academic research projects, develops and maintains curricula, leads professional conferences, and provides public relations support where needed. The work includes the development of proposals and grant writing, scholarship and substantive project research with work interactions that generally include:
Collaboration with O'Neill Institute's staff and faculty members to conduct advanced research projects, including legal and policy research
Supervision of dedicated Associates and Research Assistants on relevant topics in projects that involve legal and policy writing and presentations, as well as participation in related conferences and events
Development of ideas and options for faculty review and decision, development and implementation of instruction and research programs that reflect faculty interests, as well as evaluation of effectiveness of curricula, programs and funded projects to meet these goals
Participation in fundraising appeals and enterprises
Qualifications
Juris Doctor
At least 7 years of substantive analytic, research, and skills development related to health policy at the local, state, and national levels
Ability to conduct the highest level of research and policy analysis in the addiction and public policy field demonstrate exceptional academic credentials, including strong knowledge of experience in health law, policy, ethics, and governance
Adept at collaboration - for working with faculty, staff, and other officials at the Law Center and the University, and with government officials, private foundations, intergovernmental organizations, and the private sector
Individuals with lived experience with addiction are encouraged to apply.
