Job Overview

The Mentor - in a temporary role - is an academic support position responsible for supervising and providing an enriching and educational experience for a cohort of as many as 25 high school students. The ideal mentor is energetic and enthusiastic about the college experience through academic enrichment, takes the initiative to solve problems, communicates naturally and empathetically with high-school students, and maintains daily habits that help them stay organized. The main areas of responsibility are include:

On-campus housing can be provided. Meal plan options will be provided throughout your position and during off-site visits that overlap with breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.
Work Interactions
Mentors are designated for the summer 2022 term with dates of employment from Monday, June 6th through Saturday, August 13th, 2022.
Mentors work approximately 10-20 hours before the first designated program launches, and approximately 40 hours a week without exceeding 20 overtime hours while programs are running. Some overtime may be required.
The nature of this position precludes Mentors from having simultaneous obligations during the designated time commitment. Some evening and weekend commitments may be required.
Employment with the University is at will and may be terminated by Mentors or the University at any time without notice or cause. Employment with the University should not be considered as an implied or explicit guarantee of employment or as a personal contract.
Failure to meet the standards and expectations of the University, the School of Continuing Studies, and the Office of Summer and Special Programs, may result in termination.
Compensation will include $16.10 per hour for up to 40 hours of work per week.
Qualifications
Current or graduating undergraduate or graduate student
Experience working with high school students and faculty
Proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, Zoom, and Canvas learning management system (LMS)
Preferred Qualifications
Current or graduating GU student
Supervisory and/or leadership experience
Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University
Knowledge or experience relating to the Academy subject matter
