Function: Negotiate favorable costs and lead times for the procurement of raw materials, finished parts, equipment, supplies, and sub-contracted services.Adhere to established procedures and controls to ensure that procured raw materials, finished parts, equipment, supplies, and sub-contracted services meet specified requirements and delivery schedules to support production operations.Key Result Areas:

  • Oversee all purchasing activities to achieve industry-leading cost, quality, and delivery performance, while optimizing the company’s supplier base for long-term success.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop both short and long-term strategies, ensuring cost and delivery targets are met while minimizing overall expenses.
  • Ensure that suppliers understand and adhere to quality requirements outlined in customer contracts.
  • Offer guidance to requisition requestors on alternative materials, processes, and external services, including cost assessments.
  • Assess supplier performance based on criteria such as on-time delivery, service quality, and pricing competitiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Source and procure raw materials, finished parts, equipment, and supplies.
  • Uphold purchasing practices and policies to foster honest, fair, and ethical supplier relationships.
  • Secure competitive costs and timely delivery of materials and supplies to fulfill production schedules and customer commitments.
  • Oversee and enhance supplier delivery performance.
  • Foster effective communication and positive relationships with suppliers and colleagues, promoting courtesy, objectivity, and fairness.
Desirable Knowledge/Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • BA/BS degree in Business, Engineering, Materials Management or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to swiftly adapt to an ERP system required; prior use of ERPs is necessary.
Desirable Experience/Skill
  • Proficiency in purchasing and negotiation methodologies, principles, and concepts is essential.
  • Experience as a buyer for a heavy manufacturing-based company is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present information effectively to suppliers, team members, and management.
  • Proven record in negotiating optimal prices and terms for materials, equipment, and services.
  • Familiarity of industry standards, general business operations, and policies.
  • General knowledge of and the ability to apply continuous improvement methodologies to purchasing and related areas.
Relationships:
  • Develops close working relationships with internal customers and external supplies.
  • Demonstrates a highly cooperative demeanor with employees and willingly takes the initiative to help others succeed.
