    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Provides leadership and coordinates the development of valid and reliable examinations in all programs. Collaborates directly with the Director of Test Development and other academic leaders on matters pertaining to testing. Serves as an advisory liaison to the curriculum and faculty development committees and assists in developing faculty test development skills.


    Job Description
    • Provides leadership and assumes responsibility for creating examinations utilized by Galen College of Nursing.
      • Ensures examinations are congruent with the most current NCLEX® test plans.
      • Codes examination items based on cognitive levels, concepts, course student learning outcomes (CSLOs), Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs), and the most current NCLEX® Test Blueprint.
      • Develop test items, review faculty-developed items, and coordinate course faculty meetings, as necessary, to approve items for the examinations.
      • Coordinates with the Instructional Technology Support Team and the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction to develop the format for all comprehensive examinations each quarter.
      • Organizes and leads meetings with faculty to discuss item analyses; facilitates discussion to determine any changes needed in item scoring and revision of items.
      • Collaborates with the Associate Directors of Curriculum & Instruction to provide course faculty with data regarding areas of the exam in which students require improvement.
    • Provides consultation on interpretation of item analyses of exams for faculty.
    • Conduct test development workshops across campuses, as needed.
    • Assists faculty in the development of items for their course examinations.
    • Review data from nationally normed examinations to identify areas of weakness for improvement.
    • Communicate with the Institutional Effectiveness team to provide data for analysis.
    • Assists the Director of Test Development in creating examinations for obtaining education units for faculty development offerings, e.g., COPA Training.
    • Communicate regularly with the Director of Test Development regarding testing and identified areas of concern.
    • Other duties as assigned
    Job Requirements
    • Education: An earned master’s degree in nursing, psychometrics, or related field is preferred. A doctoral degree in education or nursing education focusing on curriculum and instructional design, psychometrics is strongly preferred. An earned CNE credential and experience in item writing for NCSBN is also preferred.
    • Special Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of test development and analysis experience.
    • Degree of Supervision: Minimal; Collaborative intent for developing, delivering, and assessing testing tools is paramount.
